Chapter 19 Sudden Palpitation

Lawrence's image suddenly loomed larger in Hazel's heart.

"Thanks, Mr. Johnson. Love ya!" Hazel said.

Hazel's carefree words made Lawrence's heart skip a beat in the Johnson Group's CEO office.

He closed his eyes slightly, hiding his emotions. "If you really want to thank me, words aren't enough."

There was a knock on the office door.

Hearing the noise, Hazel mumbled something and told him to get back to work before hanging up.

Lawrence's brows furrowed slightly as he called out, "Come in."

Stuart Martin entered with some documents, immediately sensing the unusual atmosphere in the office.

Having worked with Lawrence for many years, Stuart was very attuned to his boss's mood changes.

"Mr. Johnson, here's the evidence of their embezzlement." Stuart placed the documents in front of Lawrence.

Lawrence opened the file, his expression growing darker as he read. He slammed the documents on the desk.

"Mr. Johnson, how do you want to handle this?" Stuart asked.

Lawrence had suspected issues within the company for some time and had Stuart investigate the corrupt members of the Johnson Family.

He hadn't expected to catch them so easily.

"Taking advantage of me isn't that simple. What they've taken, they'll have to give back. Notify all senior management of a meeting tomorrow morning. It's time to close the net." Lawrence said.

Lawrence's commanding presence was unmistakable.

Stuart quickly understood and nodded before leaving.

After finishing the remaining work, Lawrence left the office right on time.

As soon as he left, a shadowy figure sneaked into his office.

The man rummaged through the desk and drawers, his face darkening when he didn't find what he was looking for.

He kicked the desk leg in frustration but quickly quieted down, fearing the noise would attract attention.

Reluctantly, he restored the desk to its original state and left.

Meanwhile, in the underground garage, Lawrence sat in the back seat of his car, watching the scene on a screen with a raised eyebrow.

That idiot thought he could destroy the evidence in his office!

Stuart, in the driver's seat, noticed Lawrence's amused expression in the rearview mirror and started the car, driving out of the garage.

On the way, Stuart occasionally reported the week's work to Lawrence. As Lawrence's most trusted assistant, Stuart handled most of the Johnson Group's affairs since Lawrence's leg injury.

"Mr. Johnson, that looks like Mrs. Johnson." As the car approached the Johnson Mansion in Serenity Heights, Stuart noticed someone outside the window.

Lawrence turned to look and saw Hazel. "Stop the car."

Following Lawrence's order, Stuart stopped the car in front of Hazel.

The window rolled down, revealing Lawrence's handsome face. Hazel was surprised to see him. "Mr. Johnson?"

"Get in." Lawrence's words were brief, and Hazel didn't hesitate to open the door and get in.

Stuart greeted her from the front seat, "Good evening, Mrs. Johnson. I'm Stuart."

Hazel had heard of Stuart, though she had never met him.

Stuart was Lawrence's right-hand man, handling many of his affairs with skill and loyalty. Despite lucrative offers from other companies, Stuart had stayed with Lawrence, even after his disability.

"Hello, Mr. Martin. I've heard a lot about you. I'm Hazel," she said with a smile, respecting his talent.

After dropping Lawrence and Hazel at the mansion, Stuart drove away.

Hazel pushed Lawrence inside, where dinner was already prepared. Jeremy was home, and after dinner, everyone went upstairs.

"Why didn't you have Jason drive you back?" Lawrence asked once they were in their room.

Hazel had mentioned on the phone that she would return early, but he had just seen her outside.

"I met a friend and didn't want Jason to follow," she explained. Kelly had returned, and Hazel had met her to discuss the new company's plans.

Lawrence acknowledged with a hum and didn't press further.

Hazel noticed his unusual silence since returning and decided to ask, "Is something wrong?"

Lawrence looked at her.

"Nothing," he replied lightly, indicating he didn't want to talk about it.

Their relationship wasn't close enough for intimate conversations, and for some reason, this thought made Hazel feel a bit sad.

Shaking off the feeling, Hazel changed the subject. Seeing that Lawrence didn't want to talk much, she didn't disturb him. She placed a new sleep aid aroma by his pillow and went to wash up and sleep. Having been busy lately, she fell asleep almost immediately.

Listening to her steady breathing, Lawrence put down his work and approached the bed. In the warm light, Hazel's sleeping face looked especially peaceful. Her long eyelashes cast shadows like little fans.

Lawrence's hand moved as if on its own, almost touching her face before he snapped back to reality. He pulled his hand back as if shocked, took a deep breath to calm himself, and lay down on the other side of the bed. The scent of Hazel's sleep aid filled the air, giving him a strange sense of contentment. He quickly fell asleep.

The next day, Hazel and Kelly visited the office space at Victory Square again, finalizing the contract and payment. Though she could afford to buy the space, Hazel decided to save money for other expenses.

After securing the location, Hazel returned to the Johnson Family, informing Ruby to send dinner upstairs before heading to her room to work on design plans. The renovation agency was helping with introductions, and as a designer, Hazel found the task easy.

By the time dinner arrived, Hazel had nearly finished her designs. She quickly ate a few bites before continuing to perfect the plans, sending them to Kelly for final approval. After finalizing the details, she sent the designs to the agency. By then, her food was cold.

Hazel took the cold meal downstairs to reheat it. Just as she reached the bottom, two unexpected guests appeared at the door, Edith and Luna.
