Chapter 24 Matilda and Her Daughter
Jason and Louis were still hanging out in the hallway outside the hospital room.
Hearing what Jeremy said, Hazel nodded. The hospital was bustling with people, and she led Jeremy into the room. "Grandpa, please, have a seat."
"No need, I just need to say a couple of things," Jeremy waved his hand, looking at Hazel with a kind expression. "Lawrence already told me everything. Hazel, if it weren't for you saving him, I might not be able to see him now."
"Lawrence is my husband. It's my duty to do these things." Hazel spoke sincerely, "If I were in danger, I believe Lawrence would come to save me too."
If she didn't save him, she'd be a widow.
Her words seemed to touch Jeremy, and he praised her several times. "I'll be going now. You both take care and recover well."
"Okay, take care, Grandpa." Hazel replied.
After Jeremy left, Hazel stepped out of the room and saw Louis standing there, looking uneasy.
"Mr. Martin, what are you doing?" Hazel asked.
Louis looked like he was caught red-handed.
"Did Mr. Johnson say anything to you?" Louis hesitated for a moment and asked cautiously.
Hazel squinted her eyes. Something was off.
She looked at Louis with suspicion. "No, he didn't say anything. What exactly do you want to say, Mr. Martin?"
"Nothing, I was just asking." Louis said.
Not knowing what Louis was up to, Hazel didn't bother to guess.
"What do you want to eat? I'll have someone get it for you." Louis changed the subject, and Hazel found it amusing. "Mr. Martin, are you feeling guilty?"
Louis didn't pretend anymore and spread his hands. "Yes, so let me make it up to you. Otherwise, your husband Lawrence will give me a hard time."
The mention of "your husband" made Hazel a bit embarrassed.
No wonder Louis's attitude towards her had changed; he had found out about her relationship with Lawrence.
After thinking for a moment, Hazel listed a few dishes.
Louis had the food delivered and then left.
Now that both Lawrence and Hazel were awake, he needed to hurry back and investigate the fire incident, as the fire had significantly impacted the resort's business.
If he caught the mastermind, he wouldn't let them off easily!
After eating, Hazel pushed Lawrence for a walk. The doctor said they had inhaled a lot of smoke and needed to be observed for another day. If everything was fine, they could be discharged.
The next day, the doctor examined both of them, and they were cleared.
Kelly had planned to visit the hospital, but Hazel declined.
However, instead of Kelly, two unexpected guests arrived.
When the door opened, Hazel thought it was a nurse. Turning her head, she saw it was Matilda and Cheryl.
Her expression darkened. "What are you doing here?"
Cheryl held a fruit basket. Seeing Hazel's unwelcoming face, she bit her lip to suppress her displeasure and spoke softly. "Hazel, we heard you were hospitalized, so Mom and I came to see you."
If Hazel didn't know Cheryl's true nature, she might have been fooled by her gentle and kind demeanor.
"I don't need you to visit me. Go back." Hazel bluntly told them to leave. She wanted to cut ties with the Anderson family and didn't want to be bothered by them.
Matilda approached the bed with a warm smile. "Hazel, this is just a token of our concern. You didn't even tell the family you were hospitalized. Keith and I were very worried."
Hazel sneered. "What, worried you wouldn't get the formula if I died?"
'This little brat's attitude is really annoying!' Matilda cursed inwardly. If Hazel hadn't married such a good husband like Lawrence, she wouldn't have bothered to visit her today.
Who knew what luck Hazel had to marry into the Johnson family.
Why didn't she just die!
"Hazel, how can you say that? We're family. I know we went too far before, and I apologize." Matilda said.
With a fake smile, Matilda clenched her fists.
"Yes, Hazel, I know you're still mad about Randy. I apologize too. Can you forgive me?" Cheryl said.
"Sure, I can forgive you." Hazel lazily lifted her eyes, a mischievous smile playing on her lips. "How about you both kneel and slap yourselves three times? Then I'll forgive you."
At her words, Matilda and Cheryl's faces changed instantly.
"Hazel!" Cheryl pointed at Hazel, ready to curse.
Seeing their furious expressions, Hazel laughed. "Just kidding. So, what do you want?"
She didn't believe Matilda and Cheryl came just to visit. Since she was bored, she might as well play along.
Matilda patted Cheryl's shoulder, signaling her to calm down, and sat on the bed. Hazel frowned. "You should sit over there. I don't like being so close to you."
Hearing this, Matilda's eye twitched, but she moved to the chair opposite. "Hazel, we do have something to discuss with you."
Hazel knew there was a scheme. So she smirked. "What is it?"
Matilda was surprised by Hazel's sudden cooperation. With a troubled look, she continued, "Keith's company is having some issues."
Hazel's first thought was this, and she felt happy instead of sad.
Raising an eyebrow, she tilted her head. "So, you're here to take the formula again?"
"Hazel, Dad is really in trouble. You're his daughter. Can you really stand by and watch the Anderson family fall apart? That formula belongs to the Anderson family. It's only right for you to hand it over." Cheryl chimed in, her words full of blame.
But Hazel was no longer the helpless little girl she once was.
"Who is this hypocrite yelling here? Didn't Keith say he didn't recognize me? His trouble has nothing to do with me. That formula is my mom and grandma's hard work. I won't give it to you." Hazel said.
Besides, Keith had no talent for perfumery. His cold-hearted nature didn't deserve the formula.
Seeing Hazel's firm refusal, Matilda's face darkened. "Hazel, how can you be so harsh? We're just borrowing the formula. We'll return it once the company recovers."
