Chapter 25 My Husband's Hard-Earned Money

"Borrow?" Hazel couldn't help but laugh. "You guys are shameless. You're trying to steal and calling it borrowing. If I give you the recipe, all the benefits go to you. There's no such thing as a free bread."

"Alright, let's drop the recipe talk." Matilda quickly changed the subject. "How about this, Hazel? Now that you're married to Lawrence, why don't you ask him to invest some money in Keith's company to help him out? The Johnson family is loaded; a few million dollars is nothing to them."

Hearing this, Hazel finally understood their real reason for visiting today.

They had found out about Lawrence's true identity and came to suck up.

"No way." Hazel refused without a second thought. Did they think she was stupid? Their intentions were crystal clear.

If the Anderson family had shown her even a bit of kindness, she might have considered helping.

But the Anderson Villa was a place of nightmares, not worth a shred of her sympathy. Otherwise, they would devour her whole, leaving nothing but bones, dragging her into an abyss.

Hazel sneered. "Lawrence's money doesn't grow on trees. He works hard for it. I remember you mocking him for being disabled before. How quickly your attitude changes."

Even if Lawrence agreed to invest in Keith, she wouldn't allow it.

These people would only become greedier.

Matilda's face twisted with anger at Hazel's mocking, barely maintaining her composure.

"What, are you thinking of hitting me? I'm Mrs. Johnson now. Try laying a hand on me." Hazel said.

Hazel finally understood how satisfying it was to have a powerful backer.

She loved seeing Matilda and Cheryl's frustrated faces, unable to do anything to her. Their unhappiness made her happy.

"Hazel, do you really have to be so heartless?" Matilda was nearly driven mad by this little brat. If only she had gotten rid of Hazel when she was younger!

With the mask of hypocrisy torn off, Hazel couldn't be bothered to argue anymore. Her beautiful eyes were filled with arrogance and coldness. "Weren't you heartless? Matilda, you and your daughter can stop pretending to be innocent. I will repay you a thousandfold for how you treated me."

For a moment, Matilda was terrified by the cold hatred in Hazel's eyes.

It was like being stared at by a venomous snake, cold and terrifying.

Cheryl glanced at Hazel and was also frightened.

After a few seconds, Matilda forced herself to calm down, a flicker of panic in her eyes. "I don't know what you're talking about."

Hazel sneered, her hatred dissipating, replaced by cold sarcasm. "You know exactly what I mean. You're not welcome here. Please leave, and take the fruit with you. I don't eat this stuff."

They didn't even have the decency to ask for help properly. Did she care about the fruit they brought?

Just as Matilda and Cheryl were about to argue, a wheelchair appeared at the door.

Lawrence's figure emerged, his handsome face cold. "My wife asked you to leave. Do you not understand ?"

Hearing Lawrence's voice, Cheryl froze, then looked at the door with delight.

Ever since she learned about Lawrence's identity, she couldn't stop thinking about him.

How could a man as handsome and wealthy as Lawrence be with someone like Hazel? Only she was worthy of such an outstanding man.

Ignoring Lawrence's warning, Cheryl stepped forward, looking at him with adoration, her voice soft. "Lawrence, what a coincidence. You're here too."

From her hospital bed, Hazel could tell what Cheryl was thinking from her sickly sweet tone.

Even though she knew Lawrence wouldn't be interested in Cheryl, she still felt a twinge of discomfort.

He just liked attracting other women!

This thought made Hazel's face darken slightly.

Lawrence's eyes were cold. "If you don't leave, do you want me to have you thrown out?"

Perhaps his presence was too intimidating. Matilda's face turned pale, and Cheryl trembled with fear. But thinking she might not get another chance to see him, she gathered her courage. "My mom and I heard Hazel was hospitalized, so we came to visit. Lawrence, Hazel has a bit of a temper. Please be patient with her."

Cheryl started with her fake concern again. "Hazel, really, Lawrence is here with you in the hospital, and you're still sulking? That's so ungrateful."

Hazel was amazed. Cheryl was the queen of shamelessness.

She was only sulking because these two were here, making her annoyed!

Cheryl even stepped closer. "Lawrence, it's inconvenient for you in a wheelchair. Let me help you."

Cheryl's doe-like eyes stared at Lawrence, and she sweetly smiled, moving to his side. But the next second, someone blocked her path.

Jason stood in front of Lawrence, pushing Cheryl away.

Cheryl cried out, falling to the ground. Matilda rushed to help her up, glaring at Jason angrily. "How dare you push Cheryl! Do you want to fight?"

Seeing this, Hazel couldn't help but smile from her hospital bed.

Jason had done a great job.

She felt like giving him a bonus.

Jason stood like a wall beside Lawrence, looking down at the two women. "Mr. Johnson doesn't like people getting too close. Ms. Anderson, show some respect."

Matilda wanted to argue but remembered that Jason was the one who had beaten Randy at the Anderson family last time. Her anger quickly subsided.

"If you don't want trouble for the Anderson family, leave!" Lawrence's disgusted gaze swept over them like they were trash.

Humiliated, Matilda and Cheryl had no choice but to leave in disgrace.

The room quieted down, and Lawrence wheeled himself to Hazel's bedside. "Why didn't you call me?"

Hazel looked at Lawrence, understanding his meaning.

He was asking why she didn't call him when Matilda and Cheryl arrived.

She smiled, her earlier annoyance with Cheryl fading away. "For something like this, why bother Mr. Johnson? I can handle them on my own."

Her light tone had a hint of playfulness, making Lawrence raise an eyebrow.

Indeed, Hazel was good at handling people.

He had heard some of the conversation from outside, enough to know she had driven Matilda and Cheryl crazy.

Suddenly, Hazel's face turned a bit awkward. "How much did you hear?"

"Everything." Lawrence replied.

With the rooms so close, and Hazel's voice not exactly quiet, he had heard everything, especially with Jason alerting him.

So, Lawrence was telling the truth.
