Chapter 2||
Rachael||
My heart started drumming with a blend of fear and panic as I tried to understand who this strange man was.
Was he their accomplice or my savior? Was he a hero or a villain?
"Why is he here?" I heard one of Mrs Newman's friends say, but it wasn't with the same boldness they had before. Something was wrong.
I turned to them and saw that they were pale with fear. It was almost as if this stranger could kill them with one command.
"Let's get out of here!" Mrs Newman suddenly shrieked. And like scared little pups, they ran away.
With them gone, I was left alone in the alley with him. My heart was still ramming and I didn't even know where to begin but one thing was certain, I had to get out of here.
I pushed myself to my feet and hoped he would just ignore me as I made my way past him but I was wrong.
"There are more waiting out there, Hybrid. Their master paid a lot of money for you to be killed tonight. Your best bet is to stay with me." His voice was as clear as water, yet it vibrated deep within my soul setting flames to everything it touched.
"But I am not a Hybrid. I am human," I cried out but he simply smirked, sending another wave of fear into me.
My hands were still shaking but I hid them. "W— who are you?"
"Frost, Ethan Frost. Son of Edgar Frost, Alpha of Ravensclaw pack."
“The Frosts!” I gasped as cold wrapped around me in a tight clutch— Even babies knew what that name meant from birth. Power and danger! No wonder Newman and her friends ran!
The frosts were a well-known name in the world. A powerful family of werewolves that have been at the seat of power for more than a century, oppressing and killing whoever stood in their path, humans and wolves alike!
I felt sick in the stomach. This encounter couldn't be good.
"Why did you save me?" My lower lips trembled.
Ethan Frost lowered his gaze on me and my stomach twisted. “The stars have chosen you. The world needs you and that's why I can't let anyone hurt you.”
My brows reached my hairlines as shockwaves washed all over me. I tried to process and reprocess his statement, but it made no sense.
"I am sure there is a mistake somewhere. I am just... A girl." I whispered.
"I'll take you home first. Jonathan will explain everything to you." At his response, my brows shot up again.
"You know my uncle?" I asked but he simply nodded.
"He will explain, come, let's go." He took my hands and we began to jog out of the alley.
Through our walk, my heart kept jumping in my chest as questions rolled through me. And the most disturbing one was how this man knew the way to my house.
In good timing, we got to the front lawn and he dropped my hand.
"It would be best if you spoke to him alone," he whispered and before I could even breath, he turned away.
I turned to the house and I was already scared of what I would find but I had no choice.
Slowly, I walked into the house and one look at my face, Uncle Jonathan sighed. It was almost as if he already knew what was going on.
"I never expected this day would come sooner. I thought you still had a few years," he said as he took off his glasses and got to his feet.
"Uncle, you are scaring me." My voice fell very low. I was almost shaking with fear.
"Ray, it's about time you learned about your parents and how they died."
I cocked my head. "Don't tell me, they didn't die in an accident?"
Uncle shook his head. "No, they didn't." He sighed and looked at me. His weathered face looked uncomfortable. "They were murdered, Ray."
My lips moved, but words never came out. I looked down at the floor instead and ran my fingers along the table.
"Why?" I asked the most obvious question.
"They died protecting you. Because you are the Moon Wolf. You have the power of the Moon Goddess."
"No, no." I whispered in denial. “I am human, and you can't be serious! Is this some sort of prank? How can I just wake up and become some Moon wolf bullshit!”
"Ray." My uncle called behind me.
"I won't hear it! No!" I kept mumbling.
It made no sense. There was no logical explanation!
"Your powers have awakened, Ray. Their master will come for you,” Uncle Jonathan whispered.
My heart shattered and I felt like crying. “What powers? I am only human… What are you talking about?”
"The power is taking shape in you, Ray," Uncle said.
“W—what are we going to do now?” I mumbled as my insides just went numb. I still didn’t believe it, but what could I do now? How could I escape this madness?
Rather than respond to me, Uncle Jonathan turned his head to the living room and his eyes narrowed. There was an eerie silence that followed and I slowly pulled myself off the floor to come stand by his side.
"Come inside, how long will you listen?" He let out and my head cocked in his direction.
"I'm pretty sure no one's at the door—"
The words were barely out of my mouth when the doorknob rattled and turned. Someone was indeed there!
Swiftly, I moved behind my uncle and watched from the corner.
As the person made their presence know, my heart dropped.
It was Ethan fucking Frost!
"Jonathan Myers," Ethan said and rolled his eyes around. "To think I would find you in a dump like this."
"Ethan Frost. Quite the distance you traveled to get here. How is Edgar doing?" Uncle Jonathan's voice was level.
I was very surprised that my uncle knew Ethan, and they spoke so freely to one another!
In all my life, I had never seen a human and a wolf converse so freely, not even the doctors!
Plus, Who the hell was Edgar?
"I'm sure you know why I'm here, Mr. Myers," Ethan let out and somehow, I knew this was about me.
I grabbed my uncle's arm tightly, and he held my hand. He smiled down at me and rubbed my hand gently. "I know. If she has been attacked, it means that our enemies already know who she is." Uncle Jonathan replied.
Ethan had his hands in his pocket. His eyes traveled to me and my heart flipped.
"We have no choice. She's coming with me." His eyes never left me.
"No!” I cried out, moving away from my uncle. “As if I would follow a total stranger! You might be this enemy!"
"Ray, calm down." Uncle Jonathan tried to say.
"No!" I stepped back.
"Look, The Frost name carries power, if you are under my protection, no one will touch you, talk less of harming," Ethan let out but I rolled my eyes and shook my head.
"I'm not going! I don't trust you. Uncle, I can't go, please I will stay with you! Besides, we don’t even know if this guy is a real Frost! He could be a fucking fake!"
"Rachael," Uncle Jonathan snapped and I froze.
It was always serious when he called my full name.
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you this before, I did it to protect you. I wanted you to have a normal life, but they have found you." He sighed and held out his hand.
"I know Ethan Frost, he might seem a bit sketchy, mysterious to put it broadly. But you will be safer there, just trust me… I will never send you where it’s unsafe. Please, do it for me and I promise when everything settles, I will come get you myself."
"Uncle…" I groaned, knowing that there was no turning back now…
"It's okay. I also must leave. Now that they have found you. I might not be able to contact you for a while. You will be okay, alright?" He held my shoulders, and I cried in his arms, not even caring that Ethan was watching.
Uncle Jonathan sniffled and pulled away, his eyes going to the window. "Pack your things, we don't have enough time."
Whatever this nightmare was, I hated it already.
With a heavy heart, I went to my room and packed all the things I needed. When I came back, Uncle and Ethan waited at the exit.
"You take care of her. No harm should come to her!" He snapped at Ethan.
Ethan only nodded.
Uncle Jonathan tapped my shoulder. His expression softened and he smiled. "It will be alright."
From there, everything just happened fast. Ethan held my hand, and we went outside to a waiting car.
Ethan sat at the front and turned to the driver. "Go, Ravensclaw straight." His voice was low, but it carried authority.
He looked back at me, and I almost caught a hint of worry in those cold eyes before he looked away.
The car roared to life and sped away. I was feeling very exhausted, but I would die first before I fell asleep in a car with some stranger.
I forced myself awake till the vehicle came to a stop. I helped myself down and glared at the building in front of us.
But the instant we approached the gates, a man with very similar traits with Ethan, glared at us— and in that instant, I knew that things were not going to be as smooth as Ethan made it seem.
"Didn't you read the memo, Ethan? Human whores are not allowed here!"
