Chapter 5
CLAIRE’S POV
Sweat trickled down my forehead. As time passed by, I stared wide-eyed at the result handed over to me by the doctor from earlier.
As I strode down the hallway, I slowly resisted the urge to scream, tearing apart the damn pregnancy result.
Anger and indignation on behalf of my silly mistake from a few weeks back raged through my veins and the disgust I felt towards who must have done this, made my skin crawl so badly I would rip it off if I could.
I wondered how long I had been in bed, drifting in and out of consciousness while my body remained rooted to one spot at the sound of being tagged pregnant. I could hardly remember what had happened a couple of hours ago, but I knew it had to be bad for me to still be in bed just when I’d woken up.
“You're two weeks pregnant, Claire dear.”
The doctor's words from earlier resurfaced in my mind. And all I could do was to fight back the urge to tear up walking down the hallway.
My mind trailed off one last time and I drifted unsure also of how long until I opened my eyes to see Emily’s face peering into mine.
“Claire, is everything okay?” She asked, taking me by the hand.
“Talk to me Claire, what's wrong?” Emily added, with a frown creased on her face as she stared straight into my eyes.
At the sight of her, tears came then; streaming down my face in rivets. I collapsed on the ground and brought my knees up, hugging them to my chest as I handed her the result.
Emily instantly fell on her knees beside me, gathering me up in her arms as I wept. With my arms wrapped tightly around her.
“I—-” I stuttered, with more tears streaming down my face.
“I'm pregnant for that damn rapist!” I cried out.
“It wasn't meant to end this way, I can't believe this is happening to me. I failed!” I continued.
“Every happiness I’ve ever had, all gone in the blink of an eye, I'm on the verge of losing every glint of joy Emily. It hurts so much!!!,”
‘I’m a failure!’ A voice growled repeatedly in my head making it so hard to get a hold of myself in front of her.
“No!!” Emily yelled back, running a hand over my face as she wiped off my tears.
“Look at me Claire,” She added.
“You're not a failure and would never be a failure, you're my best friend. And no best friend of mine is allowed to feel that way!”
Being ambushed with the memories from the night I’d lost my virginity at the school party was bad enough. Finding out that I was pregnant weeks later was worse.
“Do you plan on keeping it?” Emily asked as I snapped back to reality, staring at her.
“No!!” I cut in almost immediately, feeling disgusted over the fact that I was carrying a child I never wanted from the very beginning.
“I wouldn't even dare!” I added.
“What are your intentions then?” Emily asked.
A lot swirled through my mind in that moment as I ran a hand through my hair trying so hard to figure out a solution to the problem at hand. After several minutes of staying silent, I finally responded.
“I’ll have an abortion. I’d schedule with the doctor to have this taken out of me,”
“Well whatever decision you make, I’ll always support you,” Emily said, as she pulled me in for a hug.
The usual stinging ache at the center of my forehead precedes the movement of my eyelids. Showing the first glimpse of a blurry ceiling above me. The ache numbs down slowly while my eyes adjust to see clearly who is right beside me.
Emily…
“It's all over now, you're going to be okay,” She said, running a hand through the strands of my hair.
“Where am I?” I mumbled trying to pull my whole body up. But for some reason, the pain I felt down my legs and lower tummy became so unbearable that I winced.
I could faintly hear the voice of Emily in my head as I drifted in and out of consciousness. And At that moment I felt dizzy one last time and I blacked out…
I awoke slowly and in pain. My head throbbed so bad that I cried out. Finally, I opened my eyes.
My eyes trailed off to the far ends of the room I was to find Emily and the doctor next to her as they stared back at me. I sat up slowly and they both stepped forward with a look that made my insides churn.
“How are you feeling?” Emily sounded genuinely worried and footsteps echoed on the metal floor as she walked over to me by the bed.
The doctor behind her said nothing, but his eyes still swept over me. Assessing.
I retraced my thoughts of agreeing to have an abortion. But for some reason, I couldn't understand why they both had such gloomy looks on their faces.
“Is there a problem?” I managed to ask.
“Uhmm..” Emily began.
“The abortion failed, you were too—-” She continued and then paused as she turned to face the doctor and then back at me.
“You were too weak for them to carry on. Instead, he’s advised that you have it taken off using a drug,”
A pang hit my chest at the knowledge of being stuck still with the damn baby. A couple of hours later right after they’d left me all by myself in the hospital ward, I’d perked up to my feet. Knowing I had to make my way out of the hospital in search of Emily.
Just as I’d gotten out, a car for some reason pulled up in front of me and the next minute I was being dragged into an unfamiliar car.
“Let me go!” I cried out but to no avail.
Instead, a familiar scent wafted through my nostrils on my first forceful entry into a building downtown that for some reason kept memories swirling in my head. Even at the thought of being kidnapped.
Just as I’d gotten in, a familiar figure by the hallway I was being dragged into caught my attention. I squinted through the darkness and to my surprise I found my stepfather standing by the hallway.
“D—Dad?” I called out.
“Don't you dare call me that!” He yelled in response.
“All I did was care for you like a father should his wife. But all you did was make me feel so unimportant, you're so ungrateful, Claire! And ——” My stepfather added. But then he was cut off by the multiple buzzing of his phone.
“A text from the Alpha King, hmm interesting!” He said with a smile creased on his face as he stared back at me.
“What's happening?!!”
