Alpha's Redemption

Alison's POV:

I woke up the next morning, hoping to feel different. I thought I would be greeted with well wishes and prayers, but it could only happen in my dreams. I was finally eighteen, an adult legally, but today felt like every other day to me.

My job was to clean the house, wash the dishes, and mop while the family ate breakfast. After eating, I'd clear their plates and nibble on the leftovers. It was a simple job, and I never complained, because complaining ended up solving nothing.

I sluggishly stood up from the rag, which served as my bed, and looked around the room, hoping that this would be my last day in the house, and indeed it was.

I climbed down the stairs and went to Phillip's room, to greet Peter, but the room was empty, and the bed was neatly arranged as no one slept on it. I became worried, wondering where they might be. They were supposed to spend the night in the house while Alpha Henry returned home.

Anxiously, I ran to the parlor, and to my surprise, Peter lay on one of our armchairs, a red blanket covering his body. His eyes were tightly shut, like he was in a deep slumber.

I stood by the door, staring at his sleeping face, feeling regretful that he fought with my brother. Peter must have sensed I was staring at him because he opened his eyes and smiled broadly upon seeing my face.

“Happy eighteenth birthday, my princess. You are legally an adult now,” his sweet voice coaxed me, and he lazily stood up. His eyelid was heavy, a sign that he hadn't slept the whole night.

“Um, did my brother send you out of the room last night?” I mumbled, staring at him with unshed tears.

Peter immediately moved closer to me and hugged me gently, like a big brother. “Sweetie, don't blame yourself for anything that happens between your brother and me, or else I might cry,” he pouted his lips like a baby, giving him that cute face.

“Today is your birthday, you should be happy that you’re growing older,” he reasoned like an elder, but I stared into his eyes, a frown on my face.

“I should cry because I am moving closer to death. Eighteen years have been removed from my lifetime,” I replied thoughtfully, staring at the space with an arm under my chin.

“Oh dear, don't think like an old man. How about we join the family for breakfast?” He suggested, and I nodded in agreement.

“That would be great, brother Pete. Also, can we go for a walk after that?” I asked with my puppy eyes, and he laughed at my funny face.

“Umm, okay, we can,” he informed me, and my face beamed with joy. Together we went to the dining room.

“Morning,” Peter greeted cheerfully and sat down on one of the available seats while I stood still, wondering if I was allowed to sit.

Peter noticed my confusion and laughed at me, urging me to sit on any chair of my choice. My joy knew no bounds, and I hungrily stared at the meal on the table with a wet tongue.

“Thank you very much, brother,” I said, appreciating him, and attempted to sit down beside Phyna, but Phillip flinched.

“You piece of junk, who gave you permission to sit down?” He yelled at the top of his voice, frightening me.

“Brother Phillip, please….” I stammered, wondering what to say.

“I gave the permission,” Peter replied, coming to my rescue, but Phillip hissed at me.

I sat down and gave Peter a worried look. I didn't want to be the cause of another couple’s fight between them. Peter assured me that everything was alright with his eyes, and I balanced my little body on the chair, thinking I would enjoy a hot birthday meal.

Mother stood up and served Peter, but she ignored my plate. I sighed softly. Not only did they not wish me a happy birthday, they also wanted me to starve to death.’ I thought aloud.

“You are going to attend the Luna choosing ceremony, right?” Father asked Phyna, who nodded happily.

I took a deep breath, wondering who Alpha Henry would choose as his mate. I couldn't attend because I wasn't invited. I'd never been invited to a ceremony involving the other pack members.

Phyna giggled as she munched on her fork, savoring the taste of the fairly cooked steak.

Peter pushed his meal to my side, but I refused to eat and stood up from the dining table at once. I went out of the house and sat down in the portico. A few seconds later, Peter came to join me. We both maintained silence until his phone rang. He picked up the call and briefly spoke with the person on the other end.

“Henry forgot an important file in his office and wants me to get it for him,” Peter informed me, pocketing his hand.

“Oh, that's nice. When duty calls, one must obey,” I replied sarcastically, emphasizing obedience.

Peter grinned at me and pulled me towards his car. “That's not the case; he's in an important ceremony, so I need to get it for him. Moreover, you need a change of scenery, so we’re going to the Alpha's office together,” he informed me, and I shrugged my shoulders; it wasn't like I could disobey him.

As we left the house, I had an uneasy feeling but decided to ignore it. He opened the car door, and I sat in the back seat while he occupied the driver's seat. The car engine was kicked, and as we drove out of the garage, I noticed Phillip peeped through the window, hoping to catch a glimpse of where we were going since his mate forgot to tell him.

This was my tenth time in Peter's car and was one of my shortest rides because the Alpha's office was near our house. The street was empty, and only a few cars were parked by the roadside.

“Wow! Where is everybody?” I asked with raised brows as my eyes searched the empty roads.

“All pack members were invited to the ceremony, and the few that remain will surely be locked in their houses,” Peter explained to me as he skillfully drove into the office’s garage. He packed the car, and we came down.

It was a sleek, modern office with polished wood floors and a hint of fresh coffee in the air. On getting to the front door, Peter excused himself and went into the huge office, while I walked around the compound, adorning every beautiful thing I saw.

Suddenly, my nose caught wind of something, and I inhaled deeply. The scent that enveloped me was unlike anything I had ever encountered. It was a captivating blend of earthy pine, sweet vanilla, and a hint of smoky warmth. This fragrance seemed to seep into my very soul, igniting a profound longing I couldn't resist.

I was shocked, and I looked around, wondering where the heavenly fragrance was coming from. I knew I wasn't allowed to venture deeper into the Alpha's office, but that fragrance blinded my eyes, and I subconsciously followed it till it led me to Brother Peter's front.

“Are you alright?” He asked with a gentle voice, and I blinked my eyelashes several times.

Many thoughts passed through my mind at once. It was my mate. When I was young, my mother would sit Phyna down, telling her the signs she would encounter once she found her mate, and I used to eavesdrop on their conversation.

“Are you the only person in this building?” I asked as my eyes looked around eagerly, ignoring his previous question.

Peter was confused, but he nodded at me.

“How is this possible?” I wondered out loud. “My brother and I cannot be mated to the same person, right?” I asked a rhetorical question, meaning I didn't intend to get an answer. Peter's eyes widened at my words.

“Wo wo wo, easy now... What are you talking about? I'm kind of confused. Are you speaking in parables?” He asked with a curious look.

“I just sensed a strange presence; it was so strong, intoxicating, and powerful, and without any doubts, it was my mate's presence,” I explained to him hurriedly, hoping he would have a way out of this.

“But I am the only man in this surrounding, except...” he paused in his words and sighed. “It's nothing serious; I don't want to raise your hopes high,” he explained after his momentary silence.

“Raise my hopes; what do you mean?" I asked, my voice now filled with hope.

"Well, you can't possibly be the Alpha's mate, can you?” He directed the question at me with an unsettling look on his face.

“Why would you suggest that I'm the Alpha's mate?” I was bewildered, wondering what had driven him to come up with such a conclusion.

“Well, the Alpha sent his clone to drop a message for me a few seconds ago. But his clone was fast,” Peter murmured, unsure of how to describe my circumstances.

“Are you saying there's a high chance that the Alpha is my mate?” I asked my brother-in-law, my hands trembling and my heart beating fast.

“Well, there's only one way to find out,” Peter replied and hurriedly dragged me to his car. We both entered, and he drove to the place of meeting.

It was crowded, as different wolves stood near the altar, watching the Alpha as he addressed them.

“Make sure that Henry doesn't see your face for now, and try to secretly get close to him,” Peter advised me before leaving.

I didn't know where he was going, but I knew he would bring the Alpha to me.
