Alpha's Rejection
Alison's POV:
I wasn't able to see what was happening in the front, so I smartly used my small figure to squeeze past the crowd.
“We'll create a better place for our children!” Alpha Henry declared enthusiastically and raised his fist like a hero.
The crowd began to murmur, some in support, while some against his declaration. Henry quickly excused himself and went to meet Peter in the inner chamber.
I didn't understand, so I turned to one of the men beside me for an explanation: ‘Kind sir, do you mind telling me what is going on?’
The man was about to explain, but on seeing my face, he scoffed. "What is an outcast like yourself doing here?" He questioned with a grimace, staring at me with disgust and anger.
I decided to leave before the crowd would notice and humiliate me like they always do.
Unfortunately, it was too late; the attention of the people in the front row lingered on me. They shifted from my side like I was some sort of plague.
“I know the Alpha is desperate about wanting to give us a Luna, but an outcast sister is not the right person for us!” one of the women said curtly, her big eyes staring at my plain clothes. Her words were well received by the crowd.
“What?” I was caught off guard by their words. “Do you mean Alpha Henry plans to mate with my sister?” I asked with raised brows, and the women erupted into laughter.
“Your perfect sister doesn't care about you, does she?” A girl about my age asked when the laughter died down. She scrutinized my outfit and burst into laughter. “I think I know why; it's because you're wolf-less.”
This time around, the crowd joined in the downgrading laughter. I stood still, unable to move, wondering if I was going to lose my mate to my perfect sister.
‘It's not confirmed that he's your mate!’ A voice in my head said with a melancholic tone.
‘No, it is confirmed. Alpha Henry is your mate, the perfect family you've been waiting for,” another voice squealed, and I decided to go with its words amidst the criticism I was receiving from the crowd.
“What are you doing here, darling?” I heard my mother's pretentious voice and turned to face her. Before me stood my parents and siblings, and my heart began to beat faster. I wondered if I should tell them about my observation with Henry. Seeing the crowd and their demeaning smile, I decided to show them that I would soon be their leader, and this was a mistake I lived to regret.
“Mother, father, Phyna, and Phillip, the Alpha is my mate,” I announced, hoping to hear praise from my family, but I was greeted with an awful silence. Even the crowd blinked their eyes, wondering if I was high on drugs.
“I felt the mating connection,” I explained, trying to convince them that I wasn't lying. After a few seconds of silence, Phyna pulled me to her side.
“Please forgive her, she's sick in the head. Come now, dear sister.” Phyna laughed like a princess, but I knew beneath that laughter were evil intentions. She dragged me away from the stunned crowd.
While my parents followed, Phillip went to meet his mate.
On getting to a lonely path, Phyna roughly pushed me to the ground and turned to my parents.
“Mother, she wants to ruin my chances with the Alpha,” she cried out like a baby and folded her arms.
“You wretched piece of dump! So you plan to disgrace our family, right?” Mother yelled at me with her piercing eyes.
“Of course not, mother. The Alpha is my mate; brother Pete can testify to it,” I choked out, interrupting my mother's sentence.
“I don't care if he’s your mate! He will mate with your sister, and she'll become Luna, saving our family from the shame you've always brought upon us,” my mother growled at me, and my father nodded in agreement.
“Your mother is right, so keep your mouth shut and take those mating thoughts to your grave,” my father added, supporting Mother's words.
“But mother, if I mate with the Alpha, I'll become Luna, and your dreams of becoming rich will be fulfilled,” I tried to convince my parents to give me a chance, but they turned me into a laughing stock.
"Oh, you poor thing,” Phyna bemoaned, “You think the Alpha would accept a weakling like you as his mate? Um, when will you grow up and stop daydreaming?” she asked.
I grunted and stood up from the floor, “I don't believe you. To prove you wrong, I'll go and meet the Alpha, and I'll tell him the truth about everything,” I proclaimed, and without waiting for their response, I turned to leave.
“If you tell the Alpha, I swear your mother and I will disown you, and we'll kick you out of our house,” my father threatened with a low, menacing voice.
But I was blinded by false hope and determination, “I don't care, I've lived in your shadows for too long anyways,” I retorted with a loud voice, clenched my fists, and left their presence with determination.
My mother wanted to stop me, but Phyna held her back. She whispered something into her ears, and they burst into laughter.
When I reached the meeting, Alpha Henry was in the front row, talking to some hefty men.
“Look who is back!” one of the ladies who had mocked me earlier exclaimed. “It's the lady who claims to be the Alpha's chosen mate,” she sneered, and everyone's attention was on me.
“Why don't we teach her a lesson? Let's make her understand that outcasts aren't allowed to dream,” another lady chipped in with an evil grin.
The crowd surrounded me, their eyes blazing with malice.
“Stop this insanity, please,” I croaked out with a low-pitched voice as a tear dropped from my eyes.
They burst into laughter, and a girl, about twelve years old, dragged my hair roughly.
I howled and tried to get her hands off me, but it was impossible because she had supporters who were holding me down. From the corner of my eyes, I saw my parents and Phyna giggling. It was then I realized that I was the greatest fool.
I cried in a broken voice when my struggle with them became impossible. Unable to bear the humiliation, I closed my eyes, but unfortunately, a baby threw an egg at me. His mother gave him another egg, and he threw it again, giggling happily.
"What is going on here?" The Alpha's husky voice made them stop the torment, but I knew better than to think he was saving me. His eyes narrowed at me, and I felt a shiver run down my spine.
"This outcast claims to be your mate, Alpha," one of the women replied to him.
Alpha Henry's expression turned from curiosity to disgust. "You? You think you're my mate?" He laughed with a cold, mocking sound. "You're not even worthy of being in the same pack as me."
I felt a stinging sensation in my eyes, and tears began to fall. I tried to wipe them away, but they kept coming. I could feel the mate bond; it was more powerful, and I wondered if he couldn't feel it.
"What are you doing here? I invited only werewolves, and I can't remember sending a special invitation card to you!" Alpha Henry’s hoarse voice cut through the turmoil in my mind.
Time seemed to slow down as he fixed his piercing gaze on me, and my body quivered under the intensity of his stare.
"Alpha.." I whispered and bowed down. I was supposed to feel different; my life was supposed to have a purpose since I’d found my mate.
‘You’ll be Luna of the Black Night Pack! Everyone will love and accept you,’ my l mind roared.
It was as if Henry could read my thoughts because he burst into hysterical laughter. "Oh, moon rituals! Get her out of here," he ordered two hefty men, in between laughter.
"Humm?" My eyes and mouth dropped at the same time. I looked at him, surprise written all over my face.
‘Can't he feel it? Doesn't he know I am his mate? Can't he feel our bond? What is going on?’ My crazy mind nearly burst with the numerous questions my brain kept producing.
"But Henry, I am your..."
"Fucking outcast! When next you dare open your mouth to call my name, you must come with your death wish. I’d advise you to address me as the Alpha of your pack because I don't mingle with lowlifes like you," he roared with an evil smirk, and the crowd burst into laughter.
My sister moved closer to him and hugged him tightly. Then it suddenly dawned on me that Alpha Henry didn't want to be my mate. He knew I was his destined mate all along, but decided to hide it.
He didn't want me to be his lover; he was rejecting me emotionally in front of his pack.
My eyes closed involuntarily, and my mouth began to shake as I tried to search for the right words. ‘My parents and Phillip were right. I don't deserve to be loved; nobody will accept a weakling like me as their mate. I was made to die alone.’
"The moon goddess has forsaken you! You don't have a wolf, a mate, or a family. You have no one. You should just kill yourself," I heard a melancholic voice, but I was too weak to look at the person's face.
This wasn't my first heartbreak; everything in my life had been painful since the beginning of time, but I never for once imagined that my mate would reject me. I’d always dreamt of getting accepted and loved.
‘I am alone,’ I murmured under my breath, and before I could raise my head, the hefty men carried me. I didn't struggle with them; the pain in my heart and the heavy bleeding I was feeling were more than enough to shut my mouth.
The crowd kept calling me bad names: outcast, golddigger, bad fruit, and a lot more. All I did was shut my eyes and allow the pain to sink in.
"Wait!" A loud, commanding voice thundered, and the men paused. At first, I thought it was Peter, but I was wrong; it was Alpha Henry. He kissed my sister on her forehead and looked at me like I was some sort of spoiled pie.
"Drop her down for a minute," he instructed the hefty men, and they threw me to the floor. I heard one of my joint bones crack, and I couldn't get on my feet.
“Look here, Alison, or whatever you are called. If you ever try this stunt again, I will banish you from this pack!” he threatened with an evil voice, and the look on his face showed that he was serious. “Trash out the thoughts of me and you becoming a couple, because it would never happen. Not in this lifetime, and not in the next.”
The last thing I saw before passing out was my mother's evil laughter, my sister's triumphant grin, and my brother stopping Peter from coming to my rescue.
Later that evening:
“Good evening, Alison,” a husky voice woke me up.
I sluggishly opened my eyes and sat up, wondering where I was. My vision was blurry; all I managed to see was my tattered clothes box, ruined on the floor, and the bed I was sleeping on was as hard as a rock. I felt a sharp pain in my neck, and when I touched it, I realized my neck was covered in blood.
Before I realized what was going on, Alpha Henry's voice disrupted my thoughts.
“I, Henry Smith, Alpha of the Black Night Pack, reject you, Alison Villiers, as my mate, forever!”
