4: Just a random bad dream

Chapter 4

I don't know how long I had slept, but it was bright.

The room was still a mess with Derek standing in front of the bed. His look was so suspicious, like he wanted to grab me or something.

"How long did I sleep?" I asked him.

Silence.

It was just dead silence with us just staring at ourselves. I felt so embarrassed as I recalled his question over and over again and even recalled I had questions to be sure, I just couldn't cope.

A werewolf?

Damn.

I thought werewolves weren't real?

I got up, clumsily fixed my hair and looked around for the small bag I had planned to escape with. I picked it up. I still had the motive of escaping, but I don't know how.

I swallowed saliva as Derek's gaze moved to the bag I held, his bag that had his money. I felt like a thief, but I would not let him intimidate me like that. If he were in my shoes, he would do the same thing.

Avoiding eye contact with him, I slowly removed the bag's handle from my shoulder and dropped it on the floor. I must have looked so stupid. Waking up and grabbing the bag, I had no idea if it was a new day or a bad dream.

Maybe it was a bad dream, or did I wake up from the bad dream? Gosh!

Not knowing how else to react, I went back to sitting. I adjusted the bed and sighed.

Derek sighed too and ran his fingers across his messy hair. He took a few steps and stared at me blankly. "You know I had to watch you sleep all night," he said.

I forced myself not to roll my eyes. Whose fault was that? He shouldn't have paid for me like I was...

"Elena" Derek interrupted, "I know you don't understand why I brought you from those traffickers, I just felt like I needed a ...you know bed slave and ...and I assure you, it's the first time I have brought any human. " Derek stuttered.

I gulped.

He should be mad at me and not try to explain how he somehow saved me. Should he?

"You stabbed me yesterday, I have healed, and I am not mad at you" Derek said as he cautiously sat beside me.

I got confused.

I stabbed the living out of this dude, I called his existence a mistake and ... I have been ungrateful. He literally brought me from those people. If I can't remember what has happened to me, how am I not sure that they aren't responsible for my loss of memories?

What would that woman do to me if I had gone back to Jane? If this dude wanted me dead, he would have killed me already.

"I know it's too much, but I will be slow and..."

The knock at the door made him pause.

He looked at my visible thighs then raised an eyebrow. Although he didn't say anything, I understood that he wanted me to pull down the shirt or attempt to cover up.

"Come in" he said after the second knock.

A man walked in, and his first expression was blank. He looked around, making me follow his gaze to the messy room. The almost dry blood stains, the half-done meat from yesterday and the empty plates I ate with.

I looked up to meet the man's expressionless face and shrugged.

"What is it, Seth? " Derek said.

Seth's gaze was still on me, and I was sure that I had really made a mess. A bloody mess.

"I know I don't have much right, but I am your Beta. Derek, just tell me what the problem is and I can help," Seth said.

Derek just scoffed.

He stood up and walked to the bathroom. Odd, he left Seth and me in a staring contest for decades. He came back out clean with a towel wrapped around his waist before walking into his walk-in wardrobe.

Silence.

No one made a sound, the room was so silent that I felt I could hear my heartbeat and, again, I grew scared. I was scared that something bad might happen to me. Something worse than death.

With the way Seth had his gaze at me and Derek's silence, if they eventually let me out, where would I go?

I have no one, I can't remember anything apart from my name and I don't have money at all. If I ran into public, what would I tell them?

The police!

Wait a minute, I can run to the police.

I flinched when I heard someone yelling.

It appeared that Derek was out of his closet and was talking to Seth, but I wasn't paying attention.

"I said it before, you can't understand!!!"

Breathing heavily, I watched Seth and Derek glare at themselves. It was like they were about to fight or something. The snarling, glaring, ugh!

They simultaneously looked at me, making me crawl back into bed.

"What did she do to you, Derek?" Seth. "And what on earth does she have with Rex to make him stand did in front of your chamber this morning. Well, last night, he was in your bunker reading."

My heart skipped when I heard Rex's name. I had no idea who he was, but I felt like we had this connection. Like he was a nice coward!

"Talk to me, I can hel..."

"No you can't help," Derek interrupted Seth.

He moved his hair off his face angrily and stared at me. His breath was uneven, and he seemed like he was trying hard to maintain his emotions or rage.

"You can't help, Seth, and it's a fact."

"So what do I do to Rex?" Seth asked.

There was this look of uncertainty, confusion and anger on his face. He was staring at me as if I was the cause of the problem, but I didn't dare to shake. I knew I messed up, but what?

I stabbed him and he has already healed! So what?!

Feeling uncomfortable with his gaze, I looked away. I gulped instead of telling him what I wanted to say.

"I know you, Derek, and if I can't help, the elders can try to think about ways to help," Seth said gently.

He placed both hands on Derek's shoulders and whispered.

"I can get rid of her for you".

The heck!
