The Murder

Santiago

I've just returned from a hunting trip with Andrés. I must say the catch was superb, with a fine game, the wild boar that we'll ask Petra to roast. But my good mood is short-lived. Suddenly I get a call from Luis, which is unusual because it's usually Alvaro who contacts me about everything. As soon as I pick up the phone and hear what he has to say, a black anger invades me to the point where every vein in my body retracts.

"Boss, it's Luis. Disguised men hold Alvaro hostage."

"How could this happen?" I exclaimed, giving the table a sharp blow.

"They knew he was on your side and managed to trap him in a moment of inattention when he went to lunch."

"And where were you at the time?"

"In the toilet, Boss."

That's what I was afraid of when he wasn't calling me.

"And do you know who's behind all this?"

"A man claims to be called "The Elf", boss.

Hmm the elf eh. He thinks he's a mischievous creature making a mess. He won't get away with it.

"Gather our men and research his family, someone close to him. Meet at the cornfield."

"Okay boss"

I'm going to give that bastard a party and he'll be the happiest of pranksters.

Gathered in a small base in a cornfield, instructions given. Everyone goes about their business. That fucking elf thinks he's got me, but what he doesn't know is that when you mess with Santiago, you're guaranteed death. Stupid bastard.

An hour later..

Armed from head to toe, we made our way into a sort of hangar, where I see they've tied Alvaro in a chair. My phone silent, I receive a masked call. This guy has the nerve to call me while I'm keeping a close eye on him.

"Dear Mr. Rivera, don't you care about your little doggie here?"

"Do you think he's important to me?"

"Oh! Is that so?

"What do you know about it?"

Before he knew it, my men and I were behind him. We're much faster and more experienced in this kind of situation. So as you can see, he was caught off guard. In the blink of an eye, my men had the time to confidently kill all his men within the perimeter. I point my pistol at the back of his head, loading it. He stops dead in his tracks and raises his hands in the air.

"So, do you want to play tough and act smart, idiot?"

Immediately my men seize him and I order him to be tied to the propellers of a private plane.

"What you were saying, little elf? My little doggie?"

"I.. I can explain.."

"Oh, so now you've got some explaining to do?"

I wave to my men to free Alvaro, who is delighted to see me.

"Glad to see you with us, man," I say to Alvaro, and he nods in agreement.

I turn around and head for Danilo, the elf. And yes, I don't have any time to lose, I was able to find out his name.

"Let's get back to the matter," I say, taking my phone out of my jeans pocket.

"Have you stopped being the idiot who thought he was the master of the world? Check this out."

I dial a number and make a video call. I show the cute little family he has, terrorized by fear. Immediately his face turns as white as flour. He begs me not to hurt them and that it's all a mistake.

"It's a bit late for that, don't you think?" I state.

"I beg you, I'll do anything you want."

As I'm an impulsive person, I give the signal to shoot everyone behind the screen and our dear elf howls in pain.

"Stop shedding tears! You've only got yourself to blame. Look on the bright side, you'll be joining them soon enough. Now isn't that great news!"

My men push the plane onto the runway while our D-code keeps sobbing like a fountain. Ah! Poor thing, he deserves It, right?

"You can take off now, Luis," I ordered in the earpiece.

Due to the rotation of the propeller and the turbulence its body undergoes, centrifugal force pushes it outwards. Well, he hasn't even had time to catch his breath before he's off to the great beyond.

"There you go, man! Have a safe trip, gnome!"

I see Alvaro coming towards me.

"Thanks for coming to my rescue, boss."

I don't want to hear you. Clean this up."

"Okay boss"

I saved him because he earned my trust and he's a very competent person. Otherwise I'd have left him with that elf. That's it, I've had enough for today. I am leaving to get some fresh air.

After the little elf, aka Danilo, has left for a rather dark world, I'm off to relax by the pool. Petra brings me a large glass of freshly squeezed orange juice.

"So, my dear Petra, how's the roast boar coming along?"

"Yes my little one, don't worry, it'll be ready in time for dinner."

"Great, you're the best," I proclaimed as I watched her take off with the tray.

Just as I'm about to jump into the water, I hear Andrés asking Petra to make him a sandwich. Seeing me, he comes to meet me.

"Are you chilling, bro?"

"Yeah bro, it's relaxing. Why don't you come join me?"

"Ah later my stomach's rumbling."

"It's up to you my brother, but you know where to find me!" I say, putting on my sunglasses.

"Yeah, see you, man!"

Well, I'll see during the evening if it's worth a trip to the local bar. Who knows, maybe for a hot night in my own way. It all depends on my mood after tonight's long-awaited meal. What can I say, it took us over three hours to capture this wild boar and be patient for it to come out of hiding, so the best thing is that the meal is a success after so much effort. Don't you think so?

Ah, the dinner was a real feast, a delight for the taste buds. Everyone enjoyed themselves, and the roast wild boar, browned to perfection, gave off a tantalizing aroma. The remains of this succulent dish are still visible on the plates, testimony to an evening of conviviality and pleasure.

Even my father, who doesn't talk much at the table, wanted to compliment Petra, who was as humble as ever, saying that without the other cooks here, this dish wouldn't be a success.

"This hunting activity was worth it, bro!" Andrés declares with a big smile.

"Yeah, you said it!"

But unfortunately there's always a shrew who has to come along and spoil it all. It's my mother-in-law.

"Well, I thought the meat was a little dry for my taste," she says with an air of contempt.

Unable to hold back my anger, I throw his four truths in his face.

"Next time, you cook it yourself and we'll see how you get on," I retort, frowning as Andrés runs his hand over his face to show his displeasure.

"That's enough, you two! Can we eat in peace in this house?" orders my father suddenly in a hoarse tone. And you, Medgé, shut up.

Medgé is short for Mercedes and my father calls her that. She doesn't hesitate to give me her dark look as I give her my mocking smile.

"What? But.."

"Mercedes, I won't repeat myself."

Ah, if my father calls her Mercedes, that means he's not in the mood for jokes, and she complies. It's a good thing the little poodle has her granny and I can't help smiling inside. She had it coming.

"Petra, where is Elena?" My dad asks.

"She's out, señor."

"And Where?"

"No lo sé señor". (I don't know, sir)

"She's going to hear me."

The dinner goes on smoothly and in silence. Only the sound of cutlery can be heard in this vast dining room. Despite its beauty, the atmosphere is marbled.

Andrés keeps looking at me out of the corner of his eye, trying to make me understand that his mother has done something wrong, behaving badly. But I don't give a damn! She's always been unsympathetic to everyone, especially the household staff, and now I was able to put her in her place. For once, my father didn't mind. It was a miracle. Petra looks at me in the small corridor leading to the kitchen and gives me a slight smile for defending her. I nod discreetly. I imagine that every day she has to put up with Madame's demands for her culinary choices. Ah, life isn't always easy on a daily basis.

But as long as I'm here, I'll always come to help her so that this bitch doesn't mess her up. She doesn't know yet what I'm capable of.

The day it happens, she will finally know who I really am.
