Chapter Three
A Deal with the Devil
Elena’s POV
Air outside of the prison gates was fresh, biting, alive. my eyes scanned through the open space before me. It was all strange…The world had already moved on without me.
A low, vibrating sound drew my attention. My head immediately looked for where it was coming from. And there it was,a car so sleek and extravagant at the same time. It was totally off from the grey color or the prison house.
The black Lamborghini was shining under the sunlight, its curves beautifully sharp and lethal. It was covered with tinted windows which reflected everything around it but revealed nothing inside.
The exquisite detailing made it stand out, shining like a blade. This type of car belonged in a showroom, not supposed to be parked outside a prison gate. It was not a mere car, it was a statement of wealth, money and control.
And I knew exactly who was inside.
The passenger door clicked open for me to enter inside, the sound soft but deliberate, demanding attention anywhere it went.
I looked at the open door for a moment, my heart pounding in my chest as my gut feeling told me to turn around and walk away. But I could not, the man inside that car held the key to everything I wanted, freedom, justice, and the best of them all, revenge.
With a deep breath, I forced my legs to move and entered into the car.
The interior was as luxurious as I imagined it to be, even more. The creamy leather seats molding to my body and the faint scent of expensive cologne mixing with the smell of a new car.
I could not stop myself from using my fingers to admire the cool surface of the armrest before I pulled them back into my lap, feeling out of place, as though touching something that expensive would damage it.
There he was, Damien Vance seated in the driver’s seat, his dark suit fitted so perfectly to his body as if it was sewed with it. His posture was calm, composed, giving off nothing but effortless authority that made the air in the car even more heavier than it was.
His piercing grey eyes met with mine with a coldness that made my stomach twist.
"You’re free," he said, his voice sounding calm, as if the last ten years of my life in jail was nothing but child’s play. "I’ve kept my end of the deal."
I swallowed hard, forcing myself to meet his eyes. "I never expected it to happen this fast."
"When you have money and power anything can be done," he shot back. “I’m not doing this out of the goodness of my heart. You persuaded me you could prove your innocence, and I’m giving you that chance. But I want you to listen carefully to this…
"He leaned closely to me, no space between us as he was up in my face. his gray eyes locked onto mine. "If I find out that you were never telling the truth, if this is all some game you are trying to play with me,I will make sure that you pay for it with your life”.
The weight of the words he said hit me like a blow. From the look in his eyes I could clearly tell that this was not an empty threat. Damien Vance was not a man who bluffed.
"I’m not lying," I said firmly, refusing to let him see the fear creeping into my skin. "I didn’t kill your brother. And I’ll prove it."
He looked at me for a long moment, carrying the same unreadable expression as the last time we had spoken in jail.
Then, with a slight nod, he moved out of my face and leaned back in his seat. "Good. Because you’re about to have your chance."
I frowned, angered by the way he put those words. "What do you mean?"
His lips formed into a sly, humorless smile. "I told you that there will be conditions to our deal and you will have to pay a price for it. If you want to clear your name and get your revenge, you will have to do every single thing my way."
Something about the way he said "my way" made me uneasy inside. "What conditions?" I asked him, my face full with concern.
"You will be binded to me," he said, his voice carrying no emotion,as if a business deal was being discussed by the both of us."Legally."
I blinked, looking confused and ignorant of what he meant.”What are you talking about?"
"A contract marriage," he said simply.
I looked at him, okay maybe I misheard it. "A...what?"
"You heard me," he said, his voice sharp. "We will be married, on paper. This will give you the freedom to move freely in society again.
But most importantly, you will be tied to me which will make you under my control, you won't be able to wake up one morning and say that you are no longer interested in our deal anymore”.
"You can’t be serious." I shot back at him, anger bubbling in my chest.
"I’ve never been more serious," Miss Elena, he said, his gray eyes still locked into mine. "And that’s not all."
I folded my arms, looking at him in disbelief."What else?"
"You will have to undergo surgery to change your face," he said without even caring that he was talking to a human being. "Your old identity needs to disappear. you will have a new face, you will have a new surname, a new life or luxury and wealth.. all under my command.”
I felt disgusted at everything I just heard. Surgery. Marriage. Control. Every inch of my being shouted at me to refuse, to better walk away before it is too late. But what choice did I have? He held all the power and money.
"This is insane," I murmured under my breath.
"It’s the only way," Damien shot back at me, his voice leaving no single room for argument. "If you’re going to prove your innocence and take down the people who framed you, you will need to get access to their world. Doing everything I say is the only way you will get it.”
Everything about this was wrong. But I can never let Charlotte and Adrian win. Not after everything the both of them did to me.
After a long silence, I finally agreed. "Fine. I’ll do it."
I could see a little hint of satisfaction across his face. "Good. I’ll have the contracts ready and sent to you. when it’s time for the surgery, you will be contacted.”
Without saying another word, he leaned over and forcefully opened my door.
"Get out."
I sat inside looking at him in confusion and anger. "What?"
"You heard me," he said, his voice devoid of warmth. "Get out."
I stepped out of the car, closing the door behind me as the Lamborghini screamed back with life. Within seconds it was speeding down the road, leaving me standing all alone, surprised and baffled.
I stared at it as it drove away, my thoughts nothing short of a chaotic mess. Did I just make a deal with the devil in the form of Damien Vance?
One thing was certain..I was not only dealing with Charlotte and Adrain, But Damien would certainly become a thorn in my flesh.
