Chapter6 Fight for Her

Chapter6 Fight for Her

Ethan's POV

Amanda tightened her grip, her breathing growing heavy beside me.

I lowered my gaze to the woman in my arms. Her cheeks flushed with anger. Whatever else, she was legally my wife now. My eyes hardened as I stared directly at Richard Davis.

"Well, this is enlightening. Now I see how shameless the Davis family truly is. Threatening your own daughter with her grandfather's health? Aren't you worried what people might say?"

I raised my chin slightly, a cold smile crossing my lips.

Richard's anger surged visibly. If I hadn't shown up today, Amanda would already be promised to Harold. With nowhere to direct his rage, he turned it on me.

"Who do you think you are? When did Davis family matters become your business? I've seen plenty of guys like you. Don't think marrying into the Davis name means you've hit the jackpot. Let me tell you something - she's nothing in this family!"

Each word cut like a knife, leaving Amanda completely exposed.

The last thread of family affection vanished from her eyes.

I frowned, about to defend her when Amanda tugged at my wrist. She shook her head with a bitter smile. "Forget it. You should go now."

Richard was dead set on marrying her off to Harold. In his eyes, I was just a model – speaking up for her would do no good and might cause more trouble.

I remained silent, watching her intently.

"He can't leave yet. Today, you two must get a divorce!" Richard took a deep breath and continued. "Mr. Wilson likes you very much. If you just quietly end this marriage, he won't hold it against you."

Richard now only cared about his interests, not whether Amanda was willing.

""California makes you wait six months for divorces. Even if I wanted to end this, it wouldn't happen quickly," Amanda said tensely.

"Then tomorrow you're coming with me to tell Wilson this was all his fault. Worst case? We do the ceremony first, and you can deal with the legal stuff later." Richard's face relaxed, like he'd just fixed everything.

Amanda kept her eyes down, not refusing. She just trembled slightly and asked, "And my grandfather?"

Richard, suddenly remembering his image, softened his tone. "Amanda, what I said earlier was just anger talking. He's my father – I couldn't possibly do something so immoral."

"Fine, I'll walk him out." Amanda didn't say more. She was completely disillusioned with this family.

Richard, seeing her agree, didn't stop us. His mood visibly improved.

Amanda quickly pulled me toward the door.

At the entrance, I stopped. Looking down at her, my voice turned cold. "You're really going to marry that man?"

Amanda looked up at me. Her expression was strange – I was both familiar and unfamiliar to her. We were legally intimate but practically strangers after meeting just once.

"No, but if I refuse outright, I'm afraid Richard might hurt my grandfather. The cooling-off period gives me some time. That's enough to get my grandfather somewhere safe."

Amanda clearly wasn't someone who accepted defeat easily. No one could force her to do something she didn't want.

After hearing her explanation, my expression softened. Six months was a significant amount of time. I nodded and said quietly, "We're legally married now. If you need any help, just ask."

Amanda gave me a complicated look before shaking her head. "Forget it. You shouldn't be involved in this. You're just a model. The Wilson family has status in LA. If you offend them, you might lose your job."

I stared at her.

Did I really look that much like a model? I thought.

"What exactly made you think I was a model?"

Amanda gave me a strange look. Had she guessed wrong? "You were at that bar, and you accepted my money. What else would you be?"

So that was it. My lips twitched upward, but I didn't explain.

"What are you planning to do tomorrow?" I continued. According to Richard's plan, he'd be taking Amanda to apologize to the Wilson family. That Harold with his shifty eyes didn't look like a decent person.

Amanda gives a bitter smile. "I'll go and see. I'll be careful. They won't be able to trap me."

She had no choice. If she refused Harold now, Richard might actually do something despicable. So tomorrow, even knowing it was a trap, she had to go.

I lowered my eyes without saying more.

Amanda took a deep breath, suppressing her exhaustion. "You should go. I need to head back."

Watching her walk away, I said nothing. I turned to leave, but after just a few steps, hurried footsteps approached from behind, followed by an urgent voice:

"Wait! Stop! I need to talk to you."

I paused, turning around to see Madison hurrying toward me, breathing heavily. Looking at me, her face flushed with what appeared to be shyness.

Madison cleared her throat and sat up straight. "I know you married Amanda for money, but she's just a country bumpkin the Davis family took in. She has no money. If you want money, you should look elsewhere."

I smiled mockingly. "Oh? Got any suggestions?"

Madison was engaged to Nathan, so she couldn't offer herself directly. But seeing someone like me, she couldn't help being attracted. She smiled, took out her business card and handed it to me.

"I know many women prettier and richer than Amanda. If you're interested, feel free to contact me anytime."

I looked down at the card Madison had pushed into my hand. I didn't refuse it. "Thank you, Miss."

As I prepared to leave, Madison continued, "Can... can we add each other on social media? We could chat directly."

I stopped and turned back. "If I remember correctly, Miss Madison, you and your fiancé Nathan are getting engaged soon. Are you really this eager about me?"

Madison's face instantly turned beet red. She clenched her fists, trying to speak, but the words caught in her throat.

After a long pause, she finally managed: "Don't be ungrateful. I'm trying to introduce you to clients. If you insist on sticking with that hick Amanda, that's your problem!"

I chuckled softly, not exposing Madison's clumsy lie. "Thanks for the offer. Not interested."

With that, I turned and left, leaving behind a fuming Madison.
