Chapter 4

Chapter 4

When I woke up, I’ve never felt more relaxed in my life. I get up and take a shower, then I check my messages. I got a couple from Alessio, I didn’t bother responding. He was reminding me to check out a club with him later.

When I got out of my room and to Elena’s room, I saw her curled up, I couldn’t help but smile. When I stand over her crib, she’s looking up at me.

Her eyes were begging me to pick her up. I swear she was begging me.

I pick her up, holding her tiny body up to my chest. She curls up. The little girl was only a day old, and she already held my heart in that tiny hand of hers.

I throw a blanket over her and headed downstairs. When I reach the stairs, I wish I didn’t…

I heard a woman’s high heels against the tiles of the living room. My instincts screamed at me to run. To go back upstairs and hide in Elena’s room. However, despite my better judgement I met Serena’s gaze.

“Good morning, Luca…” she says in a seductively low voice. Her smile was suggestive as well.

I nod at her before looking at Elena.

“How about you give that spawn back to its owner and we head upstairs…” she looks at Elena in disgust.

My eyes slice over her. Serena’s been working at one of my clubs for years, I would sometimes visit her at her apartment I pay for. This year she’s been making it her mission to make me fall in love with her. I don’t know why she believes she’s got some magic pussy that would have me fall in love with her.

She’s mistaken if she thinks she could ever be my wife. “What’s your plan here Serena? Insult my daughter and have me sleep with you while my wife is recovering from giving birth?” I ask, I was annoyed she called Elena a fucking spawn. I would fucking kill her. If Elena wasn’t in my arms, my hands would have been curled around her neck.

In my life calling my heir a spawn is equivalent of calling me it. I could kill her just for thinking she called call Elena that.

“Come on you’re not fooling anyone. There’s no way you would be married yet alone have a child. This slut is obviously lying to you. There’s no way…” she tries to say but I cut her off.

I hold Elena in one arm before I walk over to Serena, my hand around her neck. “Did you really think I’d let you get away with insulting my fucking wife Serena? We stopped sleeping together a year ago. You were nothing to me. Walking into my house like you own the place. Did you think you were Mrs. Bianco?”

She doesn’t say anything, she fights to get out of my grip. She tries to gasp for air, but I don’t let up.

I continue. “Starting today, if you ever come back here, I will have my men shoot you in the head and if anyone tries to sneak you in, I will behead them, do you hear me, Serena?” I ask.

She doesn’t say anything.

When I realized she stopped fighting me. I let go of her.

She falls to the floor, her hand on her throat gasping for air.

“I let you get away with a lot, like going home with customers, letting you keep that money when you know the rules. But starting today, you no longer have that freedom, you do as I say. If you think I’m joking you can try to fight me, as see where that gets you…” I warn her.

“Luca…” she gasps out.

I make eye contact with a guard. “Escort her out. If she’s in my house ever again, it will be your head or hers. That orders for every single one of you motherfuckers do you hear me?” I warn.

He nods stepping forward to pick her up and drag her out.

Being left alone with Elena, I’m not sure if it’s her feeding time or not.

“You’re not a spawn, don’t listen to that mean lady. You’re the cutest little thing I’ve ever seen…” I smile at her.

Her eyes wide open like she understands me.

My smile widens. “Come on, let’s look for Maria so we can find something to eat for the both of us.”

I walk into the kitchen to see Maria talking to the nanny who’s name I’ve already forgotten.

“I can take the food up to Mr. Bianco…” the nanny argues.

“It’s not your job. Your job is to make sure Elena’s eaten. Yet you haven’t even offered to check on her…” Maria argues.

I remember growing up, Maria didn’t know a lick of English, while I learnt at school, I taught Maria as well. Watching her speak like this makes me smile.

“Why should I care about her when she’s sleeping… Taking care of my boss is part of my job…”

“If I remember correctly, your job was to watch my child, not me. Maria show this woman out please…” I ask walking into the kitchen.

Both jump at my voice.

Maria bows. “Sir…”

I nod at Maria. She was like a second mother to me growing up.

Maria walks out the woman, while she’s shouting and screaming. Maria is stronger than she looks.

It looks like I made an oversight in childcare. Being in America has made me weak. Nannies, when I was growing up, could protect the children they took care of, they were willing to risk their lives to protect the children in their care.

When Maria walks in the kitchen I take a seat waiting for my food.

“Send word back home, I need someone to take care of Elena. I can’t trust these Americans…” I tell her.

Maria’s eyes widen. “Sir, if you…”

I cut her off. “I know. Once you call Lucia I can’t walk back from my decision.” I look at Elena.

Her safety is of the utmost importance.

“Of course…” she says dishing up the pasta she’s made.

I finish my meal in silence while Maria takes Elena from me to feed. I’ve learnt I’m actually really good at eating with one arm.

Shortly after my meal I decided to pay Elena’s mother a visit. It’s the first time I’m seeing her in two days. The last time I saw her was in the dark and I wasn’t paying attention to her if I’m being honesty.

I walk into the room, the monitor beeping…

At least she’s still alive, I guess.

Looking at her face I couldn’t help but from. I’ve seen the new woman, and I couldn’t imagine why the man would leave this woman for the other woman.

Alexandria was beautiful, in a natural way. Her dark hair hung down her sides… Her hair was really long. I didn’t expect it to hang down to her hands. Her skin slightly pale, I assume that’s from blood loss. Her lips were smaller than I’ve seen, if anything, her lips were almost a line, that’s how thin it was. Her tiny nose reminds me of Elena.

I’ve been encouraged to speak to her. I’m not entirely sure what they want me to say to her. But her doctors tell me she might be able to hear what I’m saying, and I’ve been encouraged to tell her about me and her daughter. I can barely hold a conversation with woman who can respond, and they want me to speak to one who can’t even answer me back?

“What am I supposed to say to your mother exactly?” I ask Elena.

But the little girl in my arms in dead asleep.

I roll my eyes. “You’re sleeping when I need you to tell her what she wants to hear…” I tease.

I sigh looking at the woman laying on the bed. “My name’s Luca Bianco. I found you behind one of my clubs and brought you back to my house for treatment. Your daughter’s healthy. I’ve taken care of her myself. Nothing will ever happen to her, because of my line of work. Yes, let’s go with that. Because of what I do. The best way I can keep the two of you safe is if I tell people we’re married and that your daughter is mine. I’ve named her for you. I don’t know when you plan to wake up, but know she’s going to be fine in my hands… I’ll protect the two of you from your ex-husband…” I tell her.

I look Elena and I see so much of her mother in her. I’m surprised by how little she looks like her father. She’s got a head full of dark locks.
