Ready to Strike
Chapter 5
Ready to strike
I watched with shaky hands as I flipped through the internet. The web was going crazy and the topic is rated as number one search. I was making myself some coffee when the incessant buzzing of the phone had distracted me and forced me to see what it was all about.
Murphy Allen, a long rival of my father was set to send him packing out for the company he built with blood and sweat. What's more? Most of the board of directors were clamouring for this too because my father doesn't have what it takes to be a leader. All of this reeks of Murphy's handiwork, I thought.
I clicked on a video of Murphy where he openly discussed that because my father had no child, all directors are skeptical about what will become of them at his death and so ,they wanted someone who has an heir. I know all of this is happening because they all thought I was dead. Why were they even thinking of his death? Unless… I thought. If they were this open about their thoughts, then maybe they truly are planning something evil. I clenched my fist in anger wondering if my supposed death were all in vain.
If all these were happening, then I shouldn't have signed those god damn papers. Signing them was supposed to buy my father some time and keep my barrenness away from the media but the one thing I didn't want to happen is now happening. My father is now exposed to their evil and who knows if he's in danger.
I zoomed in on the image of my father and his sullen, disturbed face made my heart bled. First, he had to deal with the death of his daughter and now they want to oust him? Maybe I should have stayed with him and saw everything to the end. If I had, I wouldn't be feeling this guilty. For three years I have remained dead. After the surgery, I had been totally transformed to a new being, much more beautiful than I had been and I mean a beauty that makes men turn their heads.
Percy had made sure to teach me all that was there to know. I had sharpen my skills in power, business and strategy. He had me trained by the best at everything in a way that I could face any Royce or Britney of the world. I knew I was more than ready but everytime he pushes me to return back to New York and fulfill the promise I made him years back, I get a cold feet.
You can't blame me. I haven't been able to forget that night when I signed those papers. I haven't forgotten the words he hurled at me when I had woken up with partial amnesia and how he had threatened to have me killed. For someone who had staged my death and even went ahead to present a corpse in order to make everyone believe him, he could indeed have me killed.
Percy had tried everything he could to make me return but I haven't been able to face all of my demons. Things had gone worse when Britney had married Royce in the first year after my surgery. I had been so devastated that for a while I had abandoned all training and hit rock bottom.
But now that everyone is looking forward to getting rid of my father, it was time to get up. Everything I had and everyone I knew could be taken away from me but my father? I won't allow it.
I checked my watch one last time and stood up. Percy was going to walk in any moment from now. I walked to the nearest sofa and sat down a bit. I had been able to calm myself down a bit and was no longer shaking.
The door creaked open and I raised her head. Immediately Percy saw me, he frowned and looked at me suspiciously as if he knew something was wrong because I seldom show up at his office.
“I'm ready, I want to go back to my father.” I said as I slid the phone to him. He took the phone and skimmed through. He looked at me and let out the breath I didn't know he was holding.
“I guess it was your father's situation that made you change your mind? Anyways, I'm happy with the situation,it means the plan to get me back my position is on the move too.” He took his phone and typed on it furiously and then dropped it. Swerving his chair around, he began to tap the sturdy table with his fingers as if he was waiting for something.
I waited in anticipation as I didn't know what he was going to do next. The door opened minutes later and Percy's nephew entered. Christian entered. His face was as dark as usual and he had an envelope with him. He got to me and handed me the envelope. I opened the envelope slowly and began to look through the papers in it when he began debriefing me.
‘You are Myra Cullen now. Cullen used to be Percy's godfather in his lifetime. He lost his daughter years before he died but kept it from most people, so it's the perfect cover for you. You'll take all of her single behaviour and way of life. The file has all that you need to know about her and take on her personality,” he finished. I nodded to every single of this explanation and took every details as important.
“See this as a rebirth. A second chance to right all that went wrong. Also, don't forget that you are no longer Bella Robben now but Myra Cullen,” he said, emphasizing on the name
“Remember what we talked about and don't get caught. Christian would follow you and be of assistance to you. This is it Myra, go strike them as hard as they did to you.” Percy finished and I nodded before walking through the door with Christian trudging behind me.
Carl walked through the length of his office in agitation. It was quite late and everything was silent, except for his breath and the sound of his heels as his shoes clanked on the marble floor. His heart was quite heavy and he couldn't seem to do away with the apprehensiveness in the air.
He walked to the shelf that held his award and important pictures. He looked through all of them and stopped finally when he got to the picture of a young woman, smiling at the camera. It was the picture of Bella.
“Why did you have to die and leave me?” He asked with grief and tears threatened to flow but he stopped himself from doing that. He had mourned her for three years and it was time to forget all about it as crying would do him no good.
His heart sunk as he remembered Murphy Allen. The bastard had always looked for way to oust him but hadn't succeeded. But now that Bella was dead and he had no one to take over from him, he had the perfect excuse to do what he had always wanted.
He took one last look at the office with a heavy heart and walked out. There was no point staying since it would cease to be his in few days time.
