Chapter Four

Annabel woke up to a loud bang on her door, jolting her awake. Still sleepy, she walked to the door to see Raffaele standing there with anger written on his face. “What did you do?” He demanded, grabbing her arm roughly.

“What do you mean what did I do?” She tilted her head to the side in confusion.

“Her machines are beeping…” he wasn't done speaking when she yanked herself out if his grip, dashing towards Pinky's room at full speed. Her machines were beeping and it seemed like something was going on.

“Someone came in here.” Annabel said, walking over to Pinky. She searched from some drugs out of everything provided to her, injecting Pinky and everything became stable. “Someone came in here and tried to tamper with the devices. I specifically said no one should come in here while the patient is still resting.”

Raffaele turned back to Luca, his underboss who stood there with a poker face. “Who came in here?” Raffaele demanded.

“I don't have any record of anyone coming in. The maids were the only one who came in here and they informed me her machines were beeping.” Luca said calmly, making Raffaele turn back to Annabel who wasn't listening to their conversation but examining her patient.

Even if she was here against her will, she wouldn't just let something go wrong with the patient in her care. “Is she fine?” Raffaele asked and Annabel looked up at him. She didn't reiki and just returned everything she had picked back to where ehs ehad picked them.

It ticked Raffaele off but he couldn't say a word and just watched her let out a sigh. “For the fifth time, no one should step into her room. She's half conscious and can pick up sounds from time to time and it makes her nervous, there for affecting her. I'm the doctor here, not you guys.”

Without waiting for any response from them, she had walked out of the room, mumbling to herself. It was freaking 5 am in the morning. She was a light sleeper and slept late so someone interrupting her sleep over something which could be avoided just made her even more irritated than it would normally make her.

Annabel sat before Raffaele at the table, watching him eat as she let her food go cold before her. She was irritated and wanted to leave as soon as possible. “Are you not hungry?” He asked, his gaze not leaving his food as he ate.

“I want my phone back. That's the least you could do for me while keeping me against my will. Once I get out of here, I'll make sure to sue you.” She hissed in anger.

“What if I don't let you out?” He asked, his gaze finally meeting hers and she didn't flinch.

She scoffed, pointing towards him. “Listen to me, Don Raffaele. If you had brought your sister to the hospital like any other normal human being would, I would have teated her even if you wanted for free. I appreciate your love for my work but I am done with this.” She snapped.

The maids and guards in the room werw surprised by her actions. No one even dared to look him in the eyes and yet this woman was yelling at him, pointing her fingers at him without a care in the world.

“You're pushing your luck, Dottoressa Sinclair.” He warned, placing his fork and knife down, with his aura leaking but she didn't flinch.

“Give my phone to me and we can drop this issue.” She demanded firmly.

“How sure am I that you won't be calling someone out there?” He asked, tilting his head to the side.

“Of course I will, because there's something called communication which a phone is used for.” She snapped her fingers sassily. “I can easily pull out the strings connecting your sister's life during my next check up, or just jump down my balcony and end my own life if you refuse to give me my phone. At least I would no longer be used by you.”

Raffaele didn't know how to react to her words. She proudly stood before the fearsome Don Raffaele, threatening him with her life and his sister's without even batting an eye. She seemed even more cranky than he remembered her being yesterday when's he arrived.

“I'm waiting.” She demanded, her hand still held out towards him.

“How many days till Pinky wakes up?” He asked, going back to his meal like he didn't hear what she just said.

Annabel couldn't help but chuckle dryly but she still replied him. “A week or before.”

Raffaele gestured to his butler who stepped out of the dining hall immediately. “Have your breakfast. I was told you didn't eat anything last night. If the food isn't to your fancy, just tell the chef what you would prefer.”

“You son of a–” she paused when the butler returned to the room, handing her phone over to her. She snatched it with speed, turning it on instantly.

“If you breath a word to anyone about being here, you're as good as dead.” He warned, the look in his eyes telling her he wasn't joking. “I had my men arrange you leave at work. Till Pinky is better, you're not leaving. That should be enough for you now, shouldn't it?”

Luca rushed into the room, leaning down to whisper something in Raffaele’s ears. Annabel didn't bother paying attention to them but her attention was soon drawn by sudden sounds of gunshots. It was erratic.

Annabel felt her heart drop, her attention immediately pulled away from her phone as Raffaele grabbed her, lifting her in his arms in a swift second as he strode out of the dining room.

“What's going on?” She asked, the sounds of gunshots in different corners of the house.

“A set up.” He mumbled, striding towards Pinky's room. The place was already heavily guarded before the stepped in.

“We're moving her. And you or you'll be dead in battle.”
