A more deeper relationship
Jessica’s POV
“Ow. Hey!” I wailed as David pulled my arm with force. He was no longer the reserved man I knew. He was something much worse now. As he pulled, I did everything I could to stay silent as I assumed that he was a man who tolerate absolute obedience and detests weakness. Not that he cared about my well-being as he was just dragging me like a lifeless tool.
The pulling became unbearable and in order to save what was left of my left arm, I pulled out, yelling, “Enough!” He obeyed me this time around letting me go. “You’ve been pulling me for almost five minutes now and I’m not even in the least comfortable with you treating me like I’m a non-living thing.”
“Quit your whining. Victor’s men will soon be gaining on us. The earlier we get you to a better place, the better.” He moved closer to me trying to pull me again.
“No! Don’t you dare move closer to me.” I ordered with my face swelling with fury. “I don’t know what’s going on between you and the other guy, but I don’t really care because I’m not gonna be a part of whatever is going on here. I didn’t ask you to rescue me and right now, I’m more worried about getting myself out of this mess.”
“What do you think I’m trying to do? Do you think I’m having fun chasing you out here? I’m trying to get you to a safe place but here you are, moaning about getting yourself out of a mess you created?”
“I created?” my low voice became loud all of a sudden. “I was just doing my job until I witnessed the most traumatic event of my life oblivious to whatever it is that you guys have going on and you’re here telling me it’s my fault. I don’t even know who you are.”
“Fine. Suit yourself!” he turned around and I left the opposite direction of him finding my way back to my apartment. I knew it was dangerous to go back to work because of the mess that was created. I was going to explain everything to my boss the next day.
As I tried to sleep that night, I couldn’t shake everything that happened. The gunshots, the blood and whole art works destroyed. The ones I loved and the ones I was beginning to fall in love with, all buried in nothing but a pool of both corrupt and innocent blood.
I had no idea when I fnally fell asleep. I expected myself to be woken up by the raiding morning sunlight but instead, I woke up to the breaking of a glass in my kitchen. With what had happened within the past three hours, anything was possible and I wasn’t about to take any chances.
I got up silently from my bed and escaped through my window. Before escaping, I caught a glimpse of who broke into my room and if there was one thing I was certain of was that the men came from Victor. I may not have recognized his face but the suit he wore was just the same with the men David fought off. They probably came back to finish me off. From that moment, everything clicked and I realized that David was telling the truth and if I had known earlier, I would have sticked with him.
I walked the streets barefoot in the middle of the night hoping I would find an oasis one way or the other. The cold breeze made it feel like I wasn’t gonna last the night. Looking left and right, there was no one I could talk to. If they could find my address in less than a day, they probably know more about me.
Hiding myself underneath a dark and warm staircase still shivering from the cold, I thought of ways I could find a safe space to spend the night. I wasn’t with my phone and it was probably for the best as calling anyone would put them in danger. No credit card to avoid being traced by any stranger and there was no one to meet with in the middle of the night.
I regretted not leaving with David. He was brutal but the fact that he saved me from a bunch of guys shoud not be ignored. I left the staircase walking aimlessly around the city trying to find someone I can get help from.
My legs became sore from the walking after trekking pointlessly for close to thirty minutes. I was a step close from falling to the ground due to fatigue. A car light flashed from behind and as I turned, the car sped up. The tiredness I previously felt washed off and I ran with my sore feet. The car caught up to me in no time and the men that came out from the car were not even close to gentle.
I tried very hard to fight the ones I could but my efforts were totally futile. I was tossed into the car like nothing and a black bag was placed over my head with my hands and legs clipped mercilessly.
My muffled screams became the only sound in the car and after a few minutes, I passed out totally with no fight le
ft in me to fight any longer.
