The suprise savoir

Jessica’s POV

The same feeling I get when I wake up from my apartment was the same feeling I got when I woke up. Only that as my eyes finally cleared, I realized that I wasn’t rich enough to afford a chandelier.

As I jumped up and examined the whole room, the events of last night flashed in my head. I remembered vividly that I was in tied up but there was no rope or chains to prove it.

There was only one explanation for everything that was laid down in front of me; Victor’s men got to me and I was going to die. But if it was one thing that gave me a chance to freedom was the fact that non of my body was restricted or contained.

As I moved to open the golden door which seemed to be my way of liberation, it got opened from the other end. As the door creaked, I was ready to hurl attacks at whoever came in. The fight I didn’t have in me the previous night was history and I was about to show the world the fight I had in me.

I leaned behind the wall to give the element of surprise and as the figure entered, I delivered the first punch striking the face as hard as I could.

The first thing David did after receiving the punch was look at me with a wrinkled face. “What are you doing?” he asked curious as to why he got punched.

“Oh, my God. I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. I thought you were one of the guys that kidnapped me. I was trying to escape.”

“You thought of escaping and instead of using something to knock me out as I entered, the only thing that came to your mind was to punch me in the face?” he asked with so much rudeness that I almost punched him again.

The punch took a lot out of me but he barely felt it and what he said made sense, but I was new at getting abducted and trying to escape. “Well, don’t blame me. It’s not that I’ve done this before. I didn’t even know things like this happened in real life until yesterday. I was literally oblivious that you were the one that entered the room until I saw your face. If those were your guys, couldn’t they have been a little bit polite while abducting me? They could have opened with a very polite conversaiton saying they were from you. But no, they just had to do the whole body bag thingy.” I had to express myself to the fullest or he wouldn’t understand the gravity of the situation and how traumatized I was.

Rather than taking the matter with seriousness, he saw it as nothing but a matter to be laughed at. “So, if they had come down from the car and said we’re from David and he wants us to bring you to his house, would you have followed?”

What he said made sense as I thought deep into it but I wasn’t about to let him win. “Well, let’s not forget that we’re all here because of you.”

His smile faded slowly and he blurted out, “Don’t go anywhere. The city is not safe for you. They’re probably still looking for you. There are people here that’ll guarantee your safety.” He left the room immediately leaving no time for discussing the decision that was just forced upon me.

As I tried to object me, he finalized, “No! We don’t want what happened last night to happen again now, do we?” There was a long pause in the room. “Stay here and not make this difficult for me, please. We’ll figure something out later but for now, just sit tight.” he left the room slamming the golden door giving me a lot to think of that is my new life.

Funny how my life was going very fine yesterday and now, I’m caught in a feud I know nothing about.

The first meal was served and I was treated like a queen. At first, I touched nothing but the human body wants what it wants; Food and water and I gave in.

Hours passed by and I realized that I needed to amend things with my boss. I didn’t like him after enforcing decisions I wasn’t comfortable with but talking to him was the only ethical and professional thing I could do.

As the second meal was brought, I followed the cook and found one way to finally escape from the bondage I was in. I didn’t need to bother about clothes and new pair of shoes as those were already handled before I woke up.

When I got to the art gallery, the place was swarming with police officers and passerby trying to make sense of what had transpired.

I tried as much as possible to get to my boss, but his yelling helped me locate him faster. “If it wasn’t for that stupid bitch, the whole gallery would still be intact. I can’t wait for the cops to cuff her along with the other bastards that did this to what I’ve spent the last twenty-five years of my life building.”

These words were like shards of raw diamonds on the surface of my heart sinking to the very bottom. I admit that I was the reason why the art gallery got trashed in the first place. But I didn’t expect my boss to say that after six years of undented loyalty and commitment. There was no point in meeting him now as it would probably land me in jail. I was wanted just as much as David, Victor and his men are. If it’s one person I can go back to is David because he has taken care of me more than anyone has for a long period of time.

As I walked back to my prison, I saw David pacing around the room furious. As he saw me walk in, he yelled at me like a mother yelling at her daughter for screwing up. “Don’t you know how to follow simple instructions? Do I always have to treat you like a child everytime? I’m really tired of…” As he continued yelling, I moved closer to him and cried into his arms.

“I’m sorry I ran off.” I let go of him revealing the tears that already rolled down my eyes. “I just thought there was a part of my life I could get back, that I still owned. I guess everything is over now.”

The room was totally quiet. David took a deep breathe and embraced me this time around. “I’ll protect you. I promise you, no harm would come to you, not while you’re with me.”

“I know. I’ve seen it. I don’t know why that is. But I’m going to do everything in my power to ensure that I don’t make things difficult for you any longer.”

I accepted my new life with open arms uncertain of what’s to come. But if it’s one thing I’m certain of in this new life of mine, is that as long as I obeyed David, not a strand of my hair would be pulled from any external force.
