Chapter5: Sophia, the Pretentious One
Sophia
I was fuming with anxiety and anger while pacing back and forth trying to deal with the alpha prince’s rejection. In times like this, the only thing that could take away my stress is if I go down the basement and pour out my frustration at my resident rag named Alana. Wait until I see her again and I am going to drag her into the mud and shove all my spit down her throat!
“Where is William? Why did he suddenly leave without even having a conversation with me? Why did he have to insult me like that?” I said sulking in the corner. “Didn’t he like me? But everyone in the pack likes me! No one can resist my charm!”
“Lady Sophia! Lady Sophia!” Hephaestus called my name and appeared in front of me in panic.
“What is with the hastiness Hephaestus? I am busy looking for the alpha prince! He cannot just leave me like that! I still haven’t shown him my talents as his future wife!”
I turned my back with the initial plan of going into the room of the prince to stay there so I could surprise him when he entered but Hephaestus stopped me by my hand which I quickly slapped away.
How dare him touch me!
“What are you doing?!”
“Our lady, this is about the alpha prince.”
My eyes immediately glowed.
“What about him? Where? Where is the alpha prince?”
He hesitated and even scratched his head.
“I am asking you where is the alpha prince?!” I was deeply annoyed.
Why would he tell me things that he won’t finish? It’s like teasing a child, you know.
“He went for the surprise mansion inspection just like what he wanted. He went into the basement and…”
“What?!” I said in gritted teeth as I bite my lower lip. “In the basement?!” I saw the image of a beautiful young child in my head and I can’t help it but feel threatened. “Don’t tell me he saw Alana?!”
“Yes, our lady. The alpha prince is so angry when she sees Alana that my knees become weak under his presence. This is the first time I trembled like that. Not even the alpha king could make me feel like that!”
My knees gave away that I have to hold his arm for support. No! This can’t be happening! Alana is not going to steal my future husband away!
I lifted the hem of my gown determined to not let Alana take my man away.
“I don’t care if you lay here dead. Hurry! Let’s go tell dad now! It would be such a disgrace for the whole pack for the alpha prince to see that ugly mutt!”
“But Lady Sophia!” Hephaestus stopped me again by my hand. “I think it will be best for us not to tell your father about this. We can go to the alpha prince and beg for his mercy instead.”
I looked down at the man shaking in fear. Hephaestus is really a cowardly man, so far from my alpha prince who is every inch an ideal man.
“And why would we do that?” I pushed his hand away, disgust written on my face. “It’s not our fault that an ugly mutt like Alana exists.”
I began walking into the mansion to find dad while the young omega was behind me begging for me not to tell it to the alpha.
“Our lady, please! Do not say such things because the alpha prince might hear you!”
“I don’t care! I will say what I want to say, especially about that bitch! Now, let’s go and tell dad right away!”
I rushed into my father’s office where he is busy signing papers from left to right. He is in a hurry to join the banquet with the alpha prince.
“Dad! Dad!”
He stood up worried when I ran into him.
“Sophia, be careful. What happened? Why are you in such a hurry? I thought you were entertaining the alpha prince.”
“No, dad. I am here to tell you about this very important thing. According to Hephaestus, the alpha prince conducted a surprise inspection of the mansion and he went into the basement and saw Alana! Dad, the alpha prince saw that woman we have been hiding! What are we going to do now?!”
“What?!” His murderous eyes turned to the omega. “Hephaestus, how true is this?!”
“T-That is true my alpha.” He bowed at him in both respect and fear. “I have no choice but to open the basement because the alpha prince insists or else he will execute me!”
“That child!” His voice is laced with rage pertaining to Alana. “She has really given me nothing but problems! Damn! She has just been the number cause of my curses since she came into my life! She has given me nothing but headaches!”
I am overjoyed deep inside. The more I know that my father hates Alana, the more confident I can become as the true heir of my stepfather.
I hugged him and began crying in his chest. “You are right and this time, it’s bigger. It’s the alpha prince we’re talking about! What if he’s disappointed in our pack for keeping someone like Alana in here? What would he think of me as his future wife? Would he still marry me dad?”
He combed my hair to soothe me. “Don’t worry Sophia, my lovely daughter. Daddy will take care of everything.”
He turned to the omega still bowing at us. “Hephaestus, where is she now?! Where is Alana?! Tell me now so I could give her lessons again! That child is really not learning anything from all of the lessons I am giving her!”
The door swung open and Lucas came in together with two other royal guards from lower rank behind him.
He is handsome but my alpha prince is more good looking.
“Alpha Killian,” he addressed him with respect but in a stern manner.
“Royal Guard Lucas,” my father acknowledged him back.
“The alpha prince orders you to see him immediately.”
My heart thumped in nervousness. Why would the alpha prince want to see my father? Is he going to not take me as his bride anymore?
“May I ask on what accord?” Dad said in a composed manner but I know he is just keeping his anger for Alana inside him just to keep things professional.
“It’s about your other daughter, Alana, whom he found to be in her worst state in the basement of the mansion,” Lucas replied flatly, pity in his tone.
