CHAPTER SIX
My week went by in that manner; I woke up when everyone else did as the rowdiness of the entire servants' quarters always snaps me awake; I brush my teeth and face, then run upstairs to clean what I had already cleaned the day before.
And like clockwork, both of them always sat at different positions, watching me work.
Prince Lucien had tried talking to me once, but his twin warned him and he went back to his shell.
I still couldn't get the reason for that, it was weird.
But I didn't care much about it; I just wanted to stay here and get familiar with my surroundings until I could escape to start looking for my sister.
Her picture, although I left it back in LongRiver Pack, was still ingrained in my memory.
I wanted to go back and get that box my mother left for me, but I doubted Julian would let me go, so I would just head to the capital.
I didn't have much of a clue on how to search for her except for the birthmark on my inner thigh. She has it too.
That wouldn't be of much help, as I can't imagine going around asking people to show me their thighs.
I just couldn't give up, though; she was my only family left, and something told me that I'd find her if I saw her. Hopefully that something wouldn't be my wolf who abandoned me when I needed her the most.
I woke up as usual, quickly brushing my teeth and washing my face.
Then I decided to comb my hair but I stopped halfway as I realized I was doing it for the wrong reason.
I didn't want to make them like me, I'm definitely not their type anyway. These vampires liked their women slim, pale, and with flat, red lips.
I was the exact opposite. My curves were almost too much as I spent my years under Julian's torment, stress-eating. The only reason I wasn't obese was due to my fast metabolism.
I put on my uniform, which I had washed properly in the morning,, and headed out.
Three doors before the stairs, one of them opened, revealing a human girl.
For some reason, the Princes never fed from a human in my presence again, and seeing one of the girls I'd met that first night made me realize that.
‘Was that a coincidence or are they actually being considerate of my feelings?’
Probably, no, definitely not. They must have been taking it earlier or something. I'm still getting used to this new time frame. It was making my skin pale, especially the lack of sunlight.
“Hi,” the girl said to me, drawing my attention back to her.
She was the first physical interaction I had had with anybody else since I woke up from my blood loss-induced fainting besides the Princes, the Mistress, and that rude vampire that pushed me.
For some reason, although there were loud noises around the servant's hallway, which woke me up every morning, I never saw anybody once I stepped out.
It was weird at the beginning but I got used to it.
So I was a bit surprised seeing her now.
“Hello,” I responded, noticing her freckles for the second time. She had taken off her bangs and all her hair was shoved back in a messy ponytail.
She still looked beautiful and that was saying a lot considering she's human.
“I wanted to thank you for saving my friend the other day. She's been sent back to her parents for some reason, so I wanted you to know I'm really grateful. She's been through so much,” she told me while looking up and down the hallway like someone was going to jump her bones or something.
“Um, it's okay. I'm happy we both got out of this alive,” I replied her but then she took a step back into her room, still looking around. “Is something wrong? Who are you looking for?”
“Please go on, don't let her know I came out before the right time, please. I just wanted to thank you. You almost died for her, and it was eating me up inside that I didn't show my gratitude. Bye!” She rushed out before shutting the door, leaving me in shock and confusion.
‘Before the right time?’
I didn't understand any of that, but I was already running late, so I ran upstairs to clean as I was expected to.
When I knocked, the door didn't open as fast as it usually did the past week so I assumed we were back to the status quo.
So I stood, waiting for whenever they were ready to open the door.
But then I heard a loud scream from inside the room, startling and scaring me.
Maybe I was an idiot in my previous life but I did something stupid.
I tried opening the door, expecting it to be locked but it wasn't.
I opened it to find the two Princes writhing on the ground, blood spilling from their nose as they screamed in pain.
At that moment, my brain reconnected and I ran towards the door to get help.
I was about to grab the door handle when it flew open, revealing the Vampire king.
I knew it was him because his statue was at every lobby I'd come across so I'll assume it was all over the palace.
His painting was also at the end of the staircase so I saw it every morning as I came to work.
And if all of that was not a good enough sign of who he was, the aura oozing out of him would tell you the truth.
He pushed past me and ran into the large room, revealing a female vampire that was half-dressed in a way that showed she just jumped out of bed at the screams that emanated from this room.
“What are you doing in here?!” she screeched at me, snapping me back to the present.
“I'm the cleaner, I ran in when I heard them screaming,” I replied quickly, turning around to see the King holding his two sons, emotion filling his eyes.
“That's a lie!” She accused me, pulling me by my gown. “There's no way you'll be able to get in here without them opening the door for you, so they obviously did, and you did this to them!”
I gasped in shock, looking at her with fear creeping up my spine.
“Why would you say something like that? They're vampire princes, the second most powerful men in your race and you think a small, wolfless girl like me could do anything like that to them?!” I exclaimed.
I heard footsteps running up the stairs and they sounded heavy.
“Well, that's exactly how you were able to make them drop their guards. You're a witch!”
“Arrest her!” The king commanded out of nowhere and before I could look to see who he was talking to, I was being grabbed and hurled out of the door by vampire soldiers that appeared out of thin air.
Meanwhile, the Princes were no longer making any sound as I was carried out thrashing.
