CHAPTER 6 Reject My Mate?
Ryder POV
When Dad had told me to attend the wedding of the Alpha and Luna of Shadow Moon Pack, I flatly refused. It was like a slap in the face, including our family. Lycans hardly associate with werewolves, our pride makes us look down on them. So when Dad suddenly honored their invitation, it surprised us and at the same time made us curious, but he had refused to open up and just pushed the invitation to me.
I had refused as well, but after a lot of arguments, I decided to go. Right now, I think it was the best decision I had ever made. Because if not, I couldn't have seen a girl as beautiful as this creature who could make my heart sing and my heart beat faster for the first time.
Immediately I saw her step into that hall, that was it. It was as if Valkar lost his last strings. We have both wanted our mate to feel the unique bond. And when I saw I couldn't resist the urge to claim her instantly. Just because she is a werewolf doesn't mean that I have to reject her. I might hate their kind, but I can't lose this one opportunity of having a mate.
Lycans only have one mate in their lifetime if they are lucky, but mostly Lycans hardly get paired with anyone. So count me among the lucky ones. Something that I have always wanted, I can't lose guard now.
I traced my finger along her hair, stopping at her cheeks. Her chestnut locks cascaded down her back in loose waves, her warm hazel eyes that seemed to hold a gentle glow were no longer in sight now because she was not awake. Her nose was small and slightly upturned, giving her an endearing, pixie-like quality. She had an effortless beauty like an angel. It was as if a fragment of paradise had been torn from its celestial home into the cold arms of a heartless beast.
I couldn't stop staring. Everything about her invites me. Lucky me!! We could make beautiful babies together in the future.
"Mate is so beautiful," Valkar hummed in my head, and I nodded, agreeing, but our little moment was interrupted by the opening of the door.
I turned around to see William. "What is it?" I asked immediately, my eyebrow furrowed up in disturbance.
"King Xandros is calling," he announced, and my heart skipped immediately.
"I… I…" I opened my mouth but closed it instantly. Fuck, why does he have to call at this moment?
William gave me a small nod. I collected the phone from him, and on the screen was King Xandros Vortan Tharkon. My grip tightened. Whenever my father calls, it's never for a good reason.
Don't get me wrong but we never get so along. And with the argument we had before I left the castle, I wasn't expecting his call at all.
So for him to be calling. My instinct tells me, is not something good.
"I think you should answer first to know why he is calling," William said and patted my shoulder.
I gave Nina one more glance and walked out of the room. William followed me. I entered another room, and he closed the door behind him. I heaved out a sigh and pressed the green button.
"Yes, Dad?"
"So you finally pick up. I thought you were never going to pick up!" He snapped. I rolled my eyes.
"What is it that I am hearing? That you did what…?" He thundered, and I pulled the phone a bit away from my ear.
"What are you talking about, Dad?"
I could hear my mother's tantrums in the background. What is going on?
"Don't you dare dad me! How could you claim a low life?" He spat in disgust, and Valkar snapped inside me. My face scowled, and my jaw clenched instantly.
"She is my mate!"
"Over my dead body," he shrieked, cutting me off, and my anger intensified.
"I don't care what she is to you, but I am giving you 24 hours to send her back to wherever you picked her up from."
"Dad!!"
"Elara Sawyer is the only mate that I know you have," I heard my mom yell in the background, and I gulped hard, struggling to control my anger.
William gave me a sympathetic look.
I know this is going to happen. But not so soon.
"Nina is my mate," I corrected them, but I heard my father snort out in disgust.
"I am just giving you 24 hours to fix this mess that you have caused, or you will have me drive down to that your house and deal with it in my own way," And that seemed to break the last straw of patience in me.
Reject Nina? Never!!
I growled, but before I could snap back, the phone beeped, meaning the call had ended. I screamed out in frustration, and smashed the phone against the wall. Veins popping out by the side of my neck. My eyes were a sharp red shot now, indicating the presence of Valkar.
"Ryder, calm down," William tried to step forward, but I snapped my cold gaze at him, stopping him right in his tracks.
"Who told them that I have found my mate!!" My voice was more brutal than the winter's gravest wind and sharper than any sword. William gulped hard and lifted his hands in the air.
"I didn't," I shot him a sharp glare, and just then, the door was immediately pushed open. Logan rushed inside, "What is the outburst all about?" He said, but the moment our gazes locked, he froze.
Logan looked at me, then back at William. "W- what happened?"
I didn't let him finish and instantly landed him a punch. "Fuck it…" he grunt, staggering back unexpectedly. His hand came up to hold his bleeding lips.
"No, no, Ryder, calm down," William rushed over to stand between us. Logan stared at the blood stains on his hand, then confusedly at me. His eyes widened, with his brow furrowed up.
"What was that for?" he snapped, and I roared. My face twitched in anger.
"What did you f*cking say to my parents?" I lashed out, and he scoffed.
"Tell your parents?"
"Don't fucking play dumb with me!!" I tried to rush over to him again, but William was quick to hold me back. He was the only one who could do this.
He never failed to show his disdain for my mate right from that woods. So, who else was going to announce the sudden news if not him?
"Play dumb with you as in how?" He lashed out, his fists curled up as he glared at me.
"You," I pointed my finger at him. My eyebrow brimmed together in rage. "You fucking told them that I have found my mate, right?"
