CHAPTER 4 Runaway

Madison POV

It was dark when I woke up and everything seemed peaceful except for the mosquitoes that seemed to cover the entire environment. I tried to get up from the cold ground where I was lying, but a sharp pain in my back forced me to fall.

The pain immediately reminded me of the embarrassment I had at the party and I felt as if I had passed out during the whipping. I rolled onto my back to catch it and even though it was scary, because of the injuries, I still did it.

I didn't want to imagine what my back would look like at that moment. I knew that the bruises had probably increased and the internal injuries I had would not be few. Tried to stop, but the tears couldn't stop falling.

My sorrow knew no bounds.

All this shame because the goddess of the moon had chosen Bronson as her Mate. I never chose my destiny and while part of me was angry with the pack members for being sorry for no reason, another part turned on my father for even considering killing the Alpha.

I had grown up with the story that my father had killed Alpha Stormbreaker while visiting another pack and escaped. I never saw what it looked like, or what my mother looked like, because history said that she died giving birth to me.

My thoughts were interrupted by voices approaching this cell, I didn't have the strength to get up, when I saw the soldiers standing next to the cage.

"You're such a disaster!" one of the soldiers said as he pulled out the keys and opened the cage. Suddenly, Aurelia appeared between them and in the cage with the pack doctor.

"The only reason I chose to do this is because you are my friend Aurelia." I heard someone mention it as Aurelia hugged him. When she came to me, Aurelia burst into tears and hugged me tightly. I needed that attention, that warmth from someone, and I was glad that Aurelia showed up.

"It was all my fault, Aurelia, I should have listened to you when you said you weren't going." She hissed as the pack doctor applied ointment to my back as I was helped to my feet.

"It's not your fault, Aurelia. If I hadn't attended the ceremony, I wouldn't have known that Bronson was my mate."

Of course, it wasn't Aurelia's fault for how it went in the end.

"I have never seen anyone as bad as Bronson. How can he refuse and then come back to embarrass me like that." I smiled connecting with her thoughts. My hopes were never very high, when I discovered that Alpha Adler was my Mate, and when he rejected me, I was not surprised.

"The wounds were cut deep into her skin, but his wolf was of great importance to his recovery. She'll be fine," the pack doctor explained.

I watched him grab his bag as Aurelia showed her appreciation and left the dungeon. After he left, Aurelia turned to look at me. "I have to get you out of here."

"You can't do that Aurelia. It's like signing a death warrant!" I replied, looking at the pack soldier at the front of the dungeon. "You don't have to worry about Edward, he is my mate and I asked him for this favor and he is willing to help me." It was very dangerous to run away with Aurelia. I didn't want to get her in trouble, but seeing the determined look on Aurelia's face, I couldn't help it.

"I'm going, we don't have time." she said holding my hands and helping me get up. The pain was still there, but it wasn't as excruciating as the pain I felt when I woke up. Slowly, Aurelia led me out of the dungeon until we passed Edward. "Listen Aurelia, I need to get her to our house, and before dawn, you must stick to the plan," Edwards ordered, looking at me with such pity on my face.

"You don't have to worry about anything, just play your part in the script." Aurelia answered and we started walking, Edwards left the prison open.

Aurelia helped me as we took another route and found our way out of the crowded palace. I didn't care where it would take me, I just wanted to be away from the gang residence or any officials. We arrived at a cabin, and although it was relatively small, I knew it belonged to Edwards, Aurelia's mate. "You should be safe here at sunrise." Aurelia lit the fire, and afforded a good view of the room.

"You must rest tonight, and before the sun rises tomorrow, you must be out of the pack." Aurelia stated, handing me a glass of water.

"What about you? Alpha Bronson would definitely want to make sure it never sees the light of day again if he finds out you're behind this." Aurelia smiled and held up her hand.

"Listen Madison, you have to understand that I did this because I thought you've been through too much. I'll do anything to see you free again and that's why it's important to get away from Ember Moon Pack. I know the roads will be hard, but it's better than staying here."

Aurelia was right, and even if I hadn't left the pack since birth, I think it was important to run for my life.

"Soldiers  will patrol tonight and leave their posts at dawn, then you will leave." Aurelia found that she took the empty cup from my hands and tried to go to the next room.

"Aurelia," I signed it.

"Thank you so much for everything, I will never forget it."
