Chapter 5
He is focused on the file in his hands.
This is real.
"Oh, good day, Sir." Bernie said, standing on his feet.
Sir?
I looked back at Ernest. He hasn't noticed me yet. He is still busy with the file. I stood on my feet slowly as I scanned his appearance. He is dressed in a very expensive blue suit, looking very different and.....
And more handsome.
"Hello, Bernie." He said.
I felt a lump in my throat at the sound of his voice.
"How was your night?" He asked.
"Awesome, sir. The interview started a few minutes ago." Bernie said and that made him look up from his file. His eyes went to Bernie first and then.....me.
His face twitched.
It is really him.
“Ernest," I called, staring at him with emotions in my eyes.
"What the hell?" He said, scowling at me.
My heart raced.
"What is this whore doing here?" He asked Bernie, without looking away from me.
I felt a sting in my heart.
"Um ....She is one of the many who came for the interview, sir." Bernie stuttered.
Ernest scoffed, looking Bernie.
Wait, Bernie has been calling him, sir. Is he.....is he the boss?
Ernest looked at me.
"You came for an interview, in my company?" Ernest asked.
I was taken back by what he just said. "Your.... your company?" I stuttered.
"What, your fucking lover doesn't take care of you enough that you came looking for a job in my fucking company?" He asked angrily.
I opened my mouth to speak but....
"Get out," he snarled angrily. His blue eyes carried a lot of hate and coldness.
“Ernest," i called regardless, reaching for him.
"I said get the hell out!" He yelled, making me jump. I quicky ran out of the office.
AT KIMBERLY’S APARTMENT
What?!" Nikki yelled, making the kids flinch.
"Nikki, geez," i called, motioning to the kids.
"Sorry. Sorry, kids." Nikki said to the kids who are seated on the sofa, busy devouring the cookies she bought for them.
Nikki took my hand and led us into the kitchen. It is late already and I am loosing my mind because of the certificate.
I heaved a sigh as she closed the door behind her.
"You mean, your ex-husband is the CEO of Ocean White advertising company?" She asked.
"Nikki, that's not the problem. They are with the fake certificate. What if they find out and...."
"Chill, Kim. This is fucking huge!" She retorted.
"Nikki, my kids. Your language." I cautioned.
"Sorry, sorry." She whispered.
"What are we going to do? We need those certificates."
"Calm down, Kimberly. You worry too much. You said they threw you out, right?"
I nodded.
"Then you don't have to worry. They must have thrown your certificate out as well" She said.
My phone rang immediately.
It was an unknown number.
I took the call.
"Hello,"
"Hi, is this Kimberly Anderson?" A male voice asked.
I gulped. "Ye...yes, this is her."
"Good. You have to come to Ocean White advertising company tomorrow morning." The person said.
My heart dropped. I looked at Nikki.
She gave me a questionable look.
"Hello, are you there?" The male voice asked.
"Ye...yes."
"Alright. Come to the company by nine AM for an interview. Thank you and have a good night rest." He hung up.
An interview?
What's wrong?" Nikki asked as I slowly took down the phone.
"Kim, what the hell is going on?" Nikki asked worriedly.
I looked at her.
"What is it?"
"It's the company," i said.
"Really?" She asked.
I nodded.
"What do they want?" She asked.
"They want me to come tomorrow for another interview."
"Really?!" She squealed happily.
I farrowed my brows at her.
"That's awesome, right?" She asked.
I shook my head, giving her my panic face.
"What's wrong?" She asked.
"I have a bad feeling about it." I said.
"What do you mean you have a bad....stop with the paranoid vibe, Kim, geez. You are going." She said, holding my hand.
I heaved a sigh.
NEXT DAY....
AT OCEAN WHITE COMPANY.....
I took a seat opposite Ernest’s desk.
"Kimberly," he called, making my heart flutter involuntarily.
That's the same way I feel whenever he says my name.
"Five years hasn't been good to you." He said, making me clench my purse tightly. My gaze is still down.
"You look different and fucking lean." He said.
God, I shouldn't have come here.
"In those freaking cheap clothes." He said.
I farrowed my brows.
"I thought your lover was capable of taking care of you." He mocked.
My heart clenched.
"Or did he leave you and moved to the next available housewife?"
I sprang up instantly, looking at him with my pain-filled face I am finding so hard to mask.
He relaxed on his seat, staring at me with his jerk face.
"This is a very huge mistake. I am sorry for coming to your company. Excuse me," I said, turning from him and headed for the door.
"I believe you have something to tell the police waiting for you out there about the complete fake certificate you brought to my fucking company." He said calmly, making me stop on my track.
My heart sank into my belly.
I turned to him.
He is on his feet, looking at me and holding up the certificate in his hand.
My lips parted in absolute surprise.
"You think I wouldn't find out?" He asked.
My heart begged to pop out of my chest.
He pressed a button.
"Bernie, send in the officers now." He said aloud, making my heart drop.
Oh God.
The door opened, revealing Bernie and two scary-looking hefty men in black attires and dark shades.
Terror washed me as they walked into the office.
"Seize her," Bernie ordered.
"N..no." i stuttered as the men grabbed my both arms, making my purse fall on the floor.
"Ernest, please...."
"Do you think I am dumb, Kimberly?" He asked.
I shook my head.
"You actually brought this fake certificate," he said, dropping the certificate on his desk. "To apply for a job here. Are you fucking serious?!" He yelled.
I flinched. "I didn't....I am sorry, please..." I stuttered helplessly.
He scoffed. "You know, five years is fucking tiny to make me forget your educational background, Kimberly."
Tears rolled down my eyes.
"You are just a highschool graduate. Did you really think you could outsmart me with this?" He pointed down at the certificate.
I shook my head.
"Take her away," he ordered the officers.
"No, please, I didn't....i didn't know it was your company, I swear. Please I will do anything" I begged.
He raised his brows.
"Anything?" He asked.
I nodded. "Yes, please."
He gave Bernie a head sign and the officers released me and walked out of the office.
"Sit," Ernest ordered.
I obeyed.
He leaned closer on the desk.
I maintained my gaze on my purse.
"Look at me when I am talking to you." He ordered.
I obeyed.
"You have to work for me, Kimberly." He said.
I farrowed my brows in confusion.
He is looking at me.
"You will work for me as my personal assistant." He said.
What?
He moved his swivel seat a little while staring amusingly at me.
I dropped my gaze, processing what he just said.
"It is either that or five years in jail."
I looked at him.
He raised his brow at me.
"Make a choice, Kimberly Anderson,"
