Chapter 7

The files fell off my hands. The sound separated them from the kiss and attracted their attention towards me.

"What the hell?" She asked.

Ernest scoffed mockingly.

My heart ached again as I leaned down to pick the files. The other girls joined to help me.

"What incompetence." I heard the girl with Ernest say.

"What do I say, babe. People are always lousy and they don't take their jobs seriously." Ernest said, making me look at him. He is looking at her and touching her face admirably.

She scoffed. "Why don't you just fire them all?"

Ernest chuckled. "Finding new employees can be stressful. You look very beautiful by the way. I missed you," He said, smiling at her as he wrapped his hands around her waist and kissed her lips again. Like before, his eyes moved to me.

I dropped my gaze on the files I was picking.

I heard her giggle. "I missed you too, babe." She said.

I heard more kissing sounds and it added to the pain in my heart.

"Why is that taking so long?!" Ernest yelled, making me flinch. I hurried up with the files.

"Girls, leave. I need privacy with my man." The girl said to her girls as I got on my feet after picking up the last file.

"I will call you when I need you." She said.

"Yes ma'am." The girls said and headed out of the room.

I was about to walk out as well but.....

"Miss Anderson," Ernest called.

I froze, suppressing my tears as I  turned to him.

"Yes, sir?" I almost stuttered.

"Get us coffee. How do you want yours, baby?" He asked his girlfriend.

"Totally black. No milk or sugar. I am burning calories." She said, smiling.

Ernest smiled at her and pinched her cheek a bit. That's familiar.

He usually do it to me.

I dropped my gaze, still suppressing my tears.

"You heard her, Miss Anderson." He said.

I nodded without looking at him.

"Two cups of black coffee. Get it now." He ordered.

I nodded slightly.

"So, tell me, how was your trip, my love?" He asked his girlfriend.

My heart ached tightly as I walked out the door.

Heaving a sigh, I walked towards Bernie's desk. He is talking to someone on the telephone. J placed the files on his desk gently so they wouldn't fall again.

"Yes, have a nice day. Thank you." Bernie said, smiling brightly and dropped the telephone. His smiling face is replaced with a frown when he turned to me.

"What is this?" He asked.

"The boss wants you to go through them." I said.

"That's a lot of files." He said, sighing.

I turned to walk away.

"Uh, where are you going?"

I stopped on my track and turned to him.

"The boss wants me to bring coffee for him and his girlfriend." I said.

He scoffed. "Darlyn is not his girlfriend. They are engaged. She is his fiance."

My heart tightened.

"Didn't you you see the diamond ring on her finger?"

I rubbed my palms on my skirt, comporting myself.

"Anyway, that's far from the point right now. You are supposed to help me with this. You are his PA, remember?" He asked.

"I know but I have to....."

"And that's not the way to the coffee spot." He cut in.

"Oh....where is it?" I asked.

"The other room by your left." He said, typing on his laptop.

I nodded.

"Hurry up, please, let's work on the files." He said.

I headed towards the room and walked in. The room is looking like a kitchen. I walked towards the counter where the coffee machine is.

I let out a breath, closing and opening my eyes.

He said fiance.

Bernie said fiance. She is his fiance.

I placed my hand on my chest, trying to calm myself.

But my heart kept aching.

I need to be calm. I have to be calm.

I nodded slightly at my thoughts before picking two cups. I made two black coffees, placed them on a tray, picked it up and headed out of the room.

I walked towards the Ernest office and I knocked slightly on his door.

"Come in," i heard his fiance say.

I opened the the door and I saw them at the desk. Ernest is seated on his swivel chair and she is on the seat opposite him.

"What kept you?" Darlyn asked as I got closer to them.

"I am sorry, ma'am." I said.

"She is getting old, isn't she?" Ernest asked, adding to my pain.

"Then you fire her." She said and looked at me.

I gulped a bit, comporting myself as I placed her cup in front of her. She placed her on the cup and I saw the familiar diamond ring on her finger.

It's the ring he gave me. His mother's ring.

My heart tightened severely.

I walked towards the boss and placed his coffee in front of him.

"What the hell is this?" He asked, motioning to the coffee in front of him.

I farrowed my brows at him in confusion.

"Are you dumb?" He asked rudely.

My heart dropped.

"The....the coffee you asked for, sir." I stuttered nervously.

"I didn't ask for black coffee, numbskull." He said.

I farrowed my brows.

"I am sorry....i thought you..."

"Get this shit out of my face." He retorted, staring at me angrily. I felt tears coming.

Darlyn scoffed mockingly.

I blinked my eyes a bit, dropping eyes on the coffee and picked it up.

"Take away mine too, it taste horrible." Darlyn said, making a disgust face.

"Can't you make a proper coffee?" She asked.

"I am sorry, ma'am." I said, walking away.

"What's even her job here, babe?" She asked as I headed towards the door.

"A less privilege I decided to help." I heard Ernest say.

I couldn't take it anymore. I walked out of the door and closed it gently.

I hastily walked towards the room where I made the coffee and placed the tray on the counter.

My tears flowed free.

I sobbed, placing my hand on my chest.

I can't believe I am going through all this. I can't believe I was once married to such a man.

He has changed totally.

Five years made him cold.

I can't continue to working here. It is too much for me.

I hate the way he talks to me. He is very rude and call me awful names. It hurts very deeply.

He is not the man i married. He is not the sweet husband I know. He is a total different person.

I can't be in the same space with him. My heart is really aching.

I can't take it.

It's my first day and he is making it hell for me.

The way he kissed her earlier really shattered my heart in a very bad way that I haven't felt before.

This is very awful.

My phone rang out. I sniffled and wiped my tears before taking it out of my pocket.

I looked at the dialer, it was Nikki.

Sniffling, I picked the call and placed the phone close to my ear.

"Nikki, hey."

"Mum," Emma's familiar voice came through.

"Emma?" I asked, farrowing my brows.

"Mum, hi" Ryan's voice came through as well.

"Wha.....where is your aunt?"

"In the kitchen, making us pasta." Emma said.

I let out a little sigh of relief.

"Mum, Aunt Nikki's house is very beautiful." Ryan said.

"Yes, we love it already." Emma supported.

I let out a little laugh. "Is it really that beautiful?" I asked.

"Yes!" They said in unison.

I chuckled. "I am glad you both like it."

"Mum, are you having fun at work?" Emma asked.

My heart clenched but I nodded. "yes, sweetie. Mummy is having so much fun." I lied, suppressing my tears.

"When are you coming back?" Ryan asked.

"Soon, honey. I will get you both cookies from the stores."

"Yay! Cookies!" They squealed happily, making me let out a laugh.

"Bye, mum, we love you." Emma sang.

"Bye, sweeties. I love you too."

"Emma, Ryan, lunch is ready." I heard Nikki's voice. The kids squealed happily and I heard their footsteps scurrying away.

I smiled a little before hanging up.

"Who were you talking to?"

I froze.

I turned around and I saw Ernest standing at the entrance, looking at me.

My heart sank into my belly.

Oh no.

He didn't hear anything, ri...right?
