Chapter~5 The murder

RUDRAKSH POV

As soon as I entered the basketball court, everyone started screaming my name. It was a totally fascinating scene—everyone was cheering for me, which really boosted my self-confidence. I scanned the court just to see Mia. She looked really cute and elegant in her sports dress. I learned that she would be part of the girls' team.

Soon, I made my way toward her. Her eyes widened in shock, though that went unnoticed by me.

I extended my hand for a handshake, but to my surprise, she didn't accept it. Anger took over her—I guess she still remembers everything that happened between us. I really regret what I did, but how do I explain to her that I had my own reasons for doing it?

After a silent pause, she hesitantly accepted, and I gladly welcomed her as a member of the Hampton Basketball championship team.

The championship date was declared as 29th April, exactly 8 months from today and during the final semester of our first year.

We practiced for almost 2 hours, and no doubt, she really played well.

MIA POV

I really didn't want to shake his hand, but neither did I want him to be humiliated in front of so many students. After a pause, I hesitantly accepted his handshake. After that, the girls and boys split off to play in different sets.

It's been 3 months now since I've been at Hampton, and Rishabh and I have grown quite close as friends. He tells me everything about his day and sometimes even takes me to parties held at his house by his old friends.

I really love how simple his family is. Today, he promised me that he would bring his favorite food for me. I'm really excited about that.

Ani and Yashika usually keep saying hurtful things to Rishabh, but now even he doesn't care, as he knows what kind of person I am.

He came and sat beside me. I was about to ask him about the food when the professor arrived and announced, "Students, attention please. This is to inform you that there is a party held by the uni tonight. We would be glad to see your presence. No dress code mandated."

When I heard this, I wasn't really excited like those other students because I'm not much of a party person. Although, if I do go to one, I usually just drink—and everyone now knows how high my alcohol tolerance is after that small party Ani held last month.

Suddenly, I remembered that tomorrow I even have to go to the party held for our school batch. I will meet my best friend from school after a long time.

In the canteen, Rishabh and I were laughing and talking when Rudraksh came and asked me, "Would you be at tomorrow's party?"

I nodded.

"Alright. I just asked because I've been given a task to handle at tomorrow's party. Thanks anyway."

Why does he always talk as if nothing ever happened? I thought.

"Mia!" Rishabh called out a little louder, having already said my name two or three times.

"Mia: Oh, sorry. Yes, continue."

Rishabh: "So you really like this sort of food? I thought you only went to five-star hotels for food daily. I even thought you were the one saying 'eww' to street food."

Mia: "I used to love street food the most. Will you bring it for me again?"

Rishabh: "I will always bring it for you till the day I'm alive."

In the evening at the party

As soon as I entered the hall with my family, everyone greeted us. My family sat at a table while I went to the bar section. I was sipping my drink peacefully when someone bumped into me, and my drink spilled on my dress. When I looked up, there was Yashika standing in front of me with a smirk on her face.

"Aw, it's okay. Bitches do deserve that," she said, smiling devilishly.

But her jaw dropped as soon as a tight slap landed on her face. She was even more shocked to see who did this.

I was once again shocked to see Rishabh standing in front of Yashika, full of anger. He literally slapped her in front of so many people—well, she deserved it anyway. Soon, Rudraksh came into view. All I knew was that Yashika would just go to him, fake crying and seeking sympathy. And I was very much right about my thoughts.

While Rudraksh and Yashika were having their own drama, I was looking at Rishabh, who looked amazing even though he was dressed simply.

I snapped out of my thoughts as soon as Rudraksh shouted at Mia. I turned my gaze toward them. Damn, he still looks perfect in party outfits.

RUDRAKSH POV

I reached the venue quite late. I saw the Ahuja family sitting at one of the tables, which meant Mia had arrived. But where was she?

While I was searching for her, I reached the bar section and saw Yashika standing there, holding one of her cheeks, with Mia and Rishabh also present. When Yashika turned her gaze toward me, she said:

Yashika: "Baby, look what he did. He slapped me for nothing."

Rishabh: "For nothing? Seriously? That means Mia, standing here with her spoiled dress, is to blame?"

Yashika: "Bitches like her deserve such treatment for humiliating me in front of the whole uni."

As soon as Yashika said this, I couldn't control myself and spoke, "Mind your language, Yashika. Don't you dare say anything like that about her again."

Yashika: "You're taking her side? Seriously? Sometimes I wonder if you're even my boyfriend or hers."

Rudraksh: "Don't take me as your boyfriend then. I never took you seriously. And who are you even to decide whose side I should take, huh? Weren't you the one who spoiled her dress?"

Vivaan came and took Mia away with him.

I really wasn't in the mood to talk with Yashika now because if I said anything in anger, she wouldn't hesitate to destroy the company. First, I needed a backup plan before I could target her.

MIA POV

I left the spot with Vivaan. Now I'm here in the restroom trying to clean the stain—hopefully, it's almost gone. When I stepped out of the restroom, I heard the sound of Mr. Ahuja talking to someone who was standing beside him. I couldn't clearly see the person's face, so I tried to listen to their conversation.

XXX: "That information is known only to Rishabh right now. I want that boy killed at any cost."

Mr. Ahuja: "Don't worry, our men are at work. They will kill him by today during the party, leaving no trace of who did this."

XXX: "I don't want any of the information leaked, or else you'll have to face the consequences."

Hearing this, I ran out in search of Rishabh as fast as I could. I searched the entire party room, but I couldn't find him anywhere. I told Vivaan everything, and even he tried to search for him.

My last hope was outside the venue. I ran there as fast as I could but was only able to see the police standing next to his body. Rishabh was brutally killed. I couldn't save him. His words started ringing in my mind:

I will always bring it for you till the day I'm alive.

I will always bring it for you till the day I'm alive.

I will always bring it for you till the day I'm alive.

Soon, I was about to collapse when someone held me. I didn't know who it was, as I blanked out completely at that moment.
