Chapter 2
Emily's heart ached at the sarcastic remark.
No one knew that Emily loved Lawrence.
Even though she had forced him into marriage with an engagement contract, she had secretly rejoiced for a long time after they became husband and wife.
But after marrying her, Lawrence treated her like a piece of furniture.
He wouldn't touch her, and even looking at her seemed to disgust him.
The Parker family kept pressuring her to have an heir, and her grandfather, William Brown, also wanted to hold a great-grandchild soon.
At first, she understood that he was resentful because his relationship with Olivia had been ruined, so she didn't hold it against him.
But tonight, she realized that he was staying celibate for Olivia.
How ironic!
Married, yet celibate.
The more Emily thought about it, the more stifled she felt, but the brighter her smile became.
"If you really can't get it up, I don't mind using IVF. Or if you don't mind being a cuckold, I can find someone else to father the child. You know, Grandpa said the condition for you to inherit is to have a child. After tonight, you have two months to think it over."
"After all, you compromised to marry me for ten percent of the shares. Compromising to have a child for the management rights shouldn't be a big deal. I'm very open-minded. As long as you complete the task, I don't care how you play around or how many women you keep..."
Before Emily could finish, Lawrence suddenly stood up and grabbed her jaw, pushing her back.
The chair tilted, hitting the table behind her, barely stabilizing.
Lawrence's eyes were dark and frightening, glinting coldly.
"Emily, how dare you treat me as a tool for having children?"
How dare she?
Why wouldn't she dare?!
When the Brown family was in trouble, she had dared to force him into marriage with an engagement contract. What else wouldn't she dare to do?
Emily closed her eyes, enduring the discomfort of her feet dangling, "IVF, surrogacy, or you can do it yourself. Your choice!"
Lawrence looked down at her cold, mocking face, emotions swirling in his eyes.
It had been years since anyone had threatened him like this.
Lawrence laughed in anger, "You think you're worthy of having my child?"
Emily laughed too, her beautiful eyes narrowing, revealing a sharp glint.
"Sure!"
She pushed Lawrence away, shifting her weight to bring the chair back to the ground.
As soon as she was on solid ground, she stood up, opened her bag, and threw a stack of papers in Lawrence's face.
"Then let's get divorced. Your friends are here, so they can be witnesses. I don't want a useless cheater who can't even have kids!"
No one knew how much courage it took for Emily to say that.
The divorce papers had been in her bag for a long time, ever since her 99th attempt to seduce Lawrence had failed.
She loved Lawrence, but this was as far as she could go.
She had taken 99 steps towards him, but he wouldn't even take the last step.
Especially, he shouldn't have used Olivia to humiliate her.
With the Parker family's backing, Lawrence had always been a leader in their circle.
After taking over the company, he had gradually turned Parker Group into a multinational corporation, ranking among the world's top companies.
It had been a long time since anyone had dared to throw something in his face.
And in front of so many people.
The atmosphere in the banquet hall instantly turned icy, with only Olivia looking excited.
She pretended to mediate, "Emily, how can you talk about divorce in front of so many people? You're deliberately embarrassing Lawrence! Apologize to him, and let's forget about the divorce!"
"If you're angry about the joke earlier, I apologize. Don't let it affect your relationship. That would be my fault!"
"Who do you think you are? You don't have the right to affect our relationship."
Emily looked Olivia up and down with disdain, "Get lost. This is none of your business!"
Olivia's eyes reddened with grievance, but they were filled with malice.
"Go ahead and be arrogant, Emily. The more you act like this, the more Lawrence will hate you."
Emily turned to Lawrence, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "Lawrence, if you want a divorce, sign the papers. Can't perform in bed and slow to divorce, are you even a man?"
Olivia couldn't help but jump in to defend Lawrence. "Emily, that's too harsh. Lawrence is a man. You're hurting his dignity!"
Emily sneered, her eyes darting between the two. "He has dignity? Have you tested it?"
If she had, the divorce settlement would be more favorable for her. After all, infidelity during marriage could mean he leaves with nothing!
Olivia's face turned red, her shy gaze sweeping over Lawrence. She wanted to test it! After all, Lawrence was the man she had dreamed of since childhood. But...
Olivia clenched her fists. "You don't have to slander me. Lawrence and I are innocent."
Emily laughed mockingly. "Innocent like sitting on his lap and kissing? That's pretty innocent!"
Olivia's face turned ugly.
Lawrence looked at Emily with a cold smile, his eyes dark and terrifying. "So eager for a divorce, what, got someone else?"
"Whether I do or not is none of your business. Even if I don't now, I can after the divorce!" Emily's eyes curved beautifully.
She still had to fulfill William's wish. Three-legged toads are hard to find, but two-legged men are everywhere. Finding someone better than Lawrence might be tough, but finding someone decent shouldn't be too hard!
"Besides, I'm doing you a favor with the divorce. What's there to be unhappy about? Don't you want to give your lover a legitimate status, instead of keeping her as a mistress?"
"Men..."
Her meaningful tone made Olivia's face change, looking at Lawrence with hope and anxiety.
But Lawrence didn't even glance at her, staring at Emily as if trying to see through her.
After a long time, he spoke slowly. "Divorce, fine!"
"Didn't you grow up playing cards? Beat me, and I'll sign."
Lawrence held up the deck of cards, his eyes revealing unreadable emotions.
Emily didn't speak, just smiled at him. Her smile was cold, with an indescribable mockery.
"What, scared?"
Lawrence threw the cards back on the table, his mouth curling in contempt. "Playing hard to get, Emily, you're still too green."
Emily laughed coldly. "Remember what you said. Don't cry when you lose!"
She took off her coat. Emily had come straight from James's birthday party, still wearing the red dress she had chosen for the occasion. The backless design revealed her beautiful shoulder blades and smooth skin. The fitted waist highlighted her slender figure, and her cleavage was stunning. She was as beautiful as an angel, making everyone hold their breath.
The men in the room stared. How could Lawrence resist such a woman for so many years? Maybe he really couldn't perform?!
Many dared to glance at Lawrence's crotch.
Lawrence's face darkened. His eyes fell on Emily, his hand on the table clenching, veins bulging.
Olivia watched, her eyes burning with jealousy! That bitch, growing up in the countryside, yet her skin was as smooth as silk. Always seducing men. Disgusting!
Emily sat at the table, leaning forward, casually playing with the cards. "How do you want to play? Blackjack? Texas Hold'em?"
Lawrence's friends exchanged glances. Impressive, Emily sounded like she knew her stuff!
"Blackjack, don't want you losing too badly!"
Emily smiled wickedly and started shuffling. Her fingers were long and slender. The fifty-four cards danced between her fingers, drawing gasps from even the seasoned players. Impressive!
Even Lawrence's gaze changed slightly. Did Emily really know how to play? Where did she learn?
After shuffling, Emily leaned over to deal Lawrence a card. The deep curve of her neckline was fully exposed, making everyone swallow hard.
Lawrence's face darkened immediately!
