Chapter 5

Watching TV with my parents is one of our favorite things to do together. When he was a kid, Sheldon was our favorite show. This show is hilarious. I'm falling asleep with my mom holding my head.

My mom says, "Honey, you need to go to bed.".

Standing up and rubbing my eyes, I headed for the stairs. When I get to my room, I lie down on my bed. Suddenly, my phone buzzed. Someone texted me, apparently.

Several of my friends have asked about Nicolas and me.

Here's the latest one from Nicolas. I just wanted to see if you made it home okay."

Definitely. "I asked my parents about me."

Nicolas asks, "What did they say?".

Honestly, they don't know anything. According to the note they left on the curb, their baby princess needs to be taken care of. The note was also accompanied by a gold wolf necklace. Sounds strange, doesn't it? I was abandoned on the street by my parents. It's crazy, how could they do that?"

The more I learn about you, the more intrigued I get. Wolf pups were fiercely protected by their mothers. Is there a chance you were in danger? "I'll let you know if I find anything"?

Thanks, I really appreciate it." I yawned and fell asleep.

-an unknown person.

"Sir, I have more info on your daughter."

"What's that?" he asks.

There were other werewolves at her school today. They were playing soccer. She seems to like a wolf. She wants to join their pack after graduation. What do you think?"

I hear it gets quiet on the other end. Sire responds after he thinks.

"I'm goanna call someone I trust in the council. They'll make you a guest in that pack. When she turns eighteen, her powers will come into full force. Without training, she can be dangerous to anyone around her. We'll need to train her." I'm praying to the Moon Goddess that William doesn't find her.

I hang up the mental link after saying "yes sir.".

• Alexi-

The alarm went off at 6 a.m. My kind had been on my mind since 5:00 a.m. It was a mystery to me. It was impossible for me to sleep. My insomnia kept me up, so I picked Nicolas up.

The game isn't until 1pm today, so I park outside the hotel and call Nicolas. He's surprised and groggy.

I laughed and said, "Get up lazy bones! Come on down. I'm outside." At the other end I hear some mumbling, then okay. Within 10 minutes, Nicolas was in my car.

• Nicolas-

To be honest, I was already awake when Alexi called. The tossing and turning was part of my sleep too. There were a lot of possibilities in my head about who her pack was. My plan was to pretend I was trying to wake up when she called. I made her wait while I was showering. She waved sheepishly as I approached her car outside.

I jumped in on the passenger side and smiled back.

She told me we'd run to her thinking spot this morning.

• Alexi-

I headed back to my house after Nicolas got in the car. It's 7 a.m. when my parents leave for the flea market in the next town on Saturdays.

Leaving them a note that I'd be picking up a friend for running today and would see them at my game.

When I got to my house with Nicolas, I ran inside with him trailing behind. Keeping him downstairs while I go up to get the baby items that were mine when I was first left on the curb.

I wanted to show Nicolas these things. Maybe the necklace emblem means something? Taking the items downstairs, I show Nicolas. The items are just as confusing to him as they are to me, so I put them away.

We shift in the backyard. So, our clothes don't rip during the shift, we leave them by a tree. His wolf follows me to my favorite place in the woods.

I'm looking at Nicolas and asking him lots of questions. Can you tell me what a pack is? If you say you're an Alpha, what does that mean? My wolf says to wait for the right one. Can you tell me what she's talking about? How come I shifted younger than a normal she-wolf? What's the story behind werewolves? How do you define a rogue?

Nicholas laughs as he tells me how werewolves came to be. At first, the Moon Goddess fell in love with a jerk. She turned him into a wolf out of rage. The first thing he did was howl in anger,

Afterwards, in sorrow. With her anger waning, the Moon Goddess let the man choose between being a wolf or a man. They have many pups together because he proclaimed his love for the moon goddess. Werewolves in this case are direct descendants of the Moon Goddess (The line of the royals). It's a bummer that all those wolves were siblings, and humans weren't allowed to mate with them. Many more werewolves were created by the Moon Goddess because she took pity on her children.

There's a good chance most werewolves are descended from lines that weren't mated with the Royals. Werewolves were unhappy when they couldn't find a mate. Each Wolf would find a soulmate made just for them, according to the Moon Goddess.

Most rogues are wolves that got kicked out of a pack and are now dangerous and feral. Also, a lone wolf can be a member of a pack but not live there.

Essentially, a pack is a bunch of werewolves living together. Basically, their pack leader (Alpha) is their government/hierarchy. Genetically, you're an Alpha or you're not.

The Beta is next in command, then the Gamma. In every society, there's more than one title or role. Now the Royals are in charge of a big area. They're direct descendants of the Moon goddess.

Alphas and Royals shift early, but everyone else waits until they're 15-16 or older. That's why you're a curiosity shifting into your wolf at 13, which means both your parents were alphas or you're a royal. Whatever your parents did, they held influential positions. They wouldn't abandon their pup unless they were dead or felt they had no choice.

If you're a female wolf, you're a she-wolf.

Once you graduate, my dad, who is the Pack Alpha, has to tell the counsel about you. It's important to know and understand Werewolf laws and how to fight like one. Besides being a White Wolf, you're also a rare breed. Your scent was masked by someone hiding you in the human world. There's something special about you.

So those are my theories. Nicholas is staring at me; I need to get him back to the team. After the game, our high school was having a dance, and I asked him to come if their team hadn't left yet.

A coy smile spread across Nicolas' face, and he said, "You like me, huh?" I laughed and pushed him. My response was, "I'm just being nice.".

We (Nicolas and me) switched back to our wolves. Back at my house, we jumped over the fence and shifted. Nicolas and I walked through the back door. My parents had come home early and looked at me curiously. Friends never come over to my place.

"Do you mind if you introduce your friend here to us?" they asked. I laughed and introduced Nicolas from the Redwood wolves.

My dad almost choked on his water. "Hanging out with the enemy?" he asked.

"Weird, right? But how else am I supposed to get their secrets? Although we'll beat them anyway."

"Sir, nice to meet you. Now I understand Alexi is nice. However, I am the captain of The Wolves and we clearly, we are the better team." Nicolas smirks at my dad.

My dad laughed and asked how we became friends.

Our friendship depends on what team wins; I joke around with my dad.

Nicolas smiled and asked, "Is that why you invited me to the dance?" I replied, "I didn't say with me. I just tried to be nice. I smirk. OK, dad, I'll take him back to the hotel so he can practice with his team. He'll need it to beat us, but I doubt they'll do it. Then Nicolas laughed at me and said right back to you.

It's still plaguing my every thought, I like Nicolas too much, which is an even bigger reason not to go back with him.
