Chapter 7

A deep raspy voice grabbed our attention. I looked back only to see the Devil glaring at me with his piercing eyes.

Suddenly Ian removed his hands from my shoulders and bowed to him respectfully. But Dylan's gaze never left mine. He kept staring me all the time. I quickly looked away. Lily nudged my arm and glared me to bow to him. But I rolled my eyes at her.

I looked back at Dylan. He raised an eyebrow and poked his tongue in his cheek as if a warning sign to bow to him but I kept a poker face and turned to Ian.

"I'll see you guys tomorrow. Bye."

They agape at my response but I just shrugged it off and walked away.

9:00 a.m.

At Black's Palace

I was in Maria's room. Mrs. Black told me that from now on I'm gonna stay here which I happily accepted as I don't have to see their ugly faces. At least I will be able to live someone with peace who doesn't hate me.

Maria welcomed me happily in her room. I told her about my first day in office, about my new friends- Ian and Lily and my head Rose. I was smiling while talking about them.

"You know you look so beautiful when you smile." Maria spoke in a sweet voice. I smiled and nodded.

"After so many days I felt that I got a new reason to live. " I replied while staring outside the window wistfully. She then held my hands and started caressing my cheeks.

"Evelyn, were you trying to kill yourself?"

I became shocked by her words. She was looking at me sternly which slowly made me drop my gaze.

Maria then sighed and patted my head softly.

"Evelyn, God only put hindrances in the path of those warriors who are capable to fight with them not for those who easily surrender and put their weapons down in defeat. You are also a warrior Evelyn. You're a strong girl. Don't let yourself down at any cost."

My eyes became watery by her words. I crashed in her arms and started sobbing.

"I am scared. I am very scared of him. I try to act tough. I try to pretend that he is nothing to me now but deep down I'm completely broken. I can't easily accept his betrayal. You don't know how much I loved him. He was the first person who made my heart beat faster. I used to die for his one glance. His one smile used to delight my day.  When we both were working on the project, Dylan used to ask me the secrets of our business deals and the approach that I am using for my projects. I was so blind in his love that I narrated him everything- my strategies, my plans and even some top secrets of my company. But it was because I trusted him with more than my life. I never even dreamed off that he'll...he'll.... why? Why did he do this to me?"

I couldn't speak a word and started crying my heart out in her embrace. Maria sighed and started stroking my hair gently.

"Evelyn, I don't know about him but I've seen how much brave you are. If any other girl would have faced this, she would have easily accepted her defeat but you're something else. You are unique and a fighter. You weren’t able to see his dark face because you are a pure soul. " She tried to console me.

"But innocent naïve people like me don't have a place in this cruel society." I whimpered.

"No Evelyn. Just because some people don't understand your worth it won't turn you useless. Your value doesn't decrease based on someone's inability to see your worth. Remember one thing child, God help those who help themselves. Everyone makes some huge mistakes, receives great treachery from their most trusted and loved ones once in a lifetime but that doesn't mean that they would live the rest of their life in remorse and despair. You should learn from your mistakes and start a new beginning. The world is a very beautiful place Eve, one day you'll get someone who not only truly loves you but most importantly respects you. Just hope for the best child and don't lose your faith in God."

I eventually calmed down after hearing her soothing words. I pulled off from the hug and chuckled.

"Why aren't you, my Mom?"  I asked her with teary-eyes. Maria grinned.

"I would love to be one."

I became delighted with her reply and chirped excitedly with tears streaming down my face.

"Fine I'll call you Mom from now." She then wiped off my tears and said in a cheerful tone.

"I am blessed to have you as my daughter."  She then hugged me tightly but I kept sobbing in her embrace as I was too elated.  Finally, I got new friends and a new family.

"In other words, I got a new life"
