Chapter 8

At Black Estates

9:30 a.m.

Dylan's P.O.V.

Everyone bowed to me as I entered the office. While I was heading towards my cabin suddenly, I heard chuckles and cackles coming from a cabin. My jaw clenched.

'Eve'

I easily recognised that this voice belonged to none other than Evelyn as she has a very sweet voice. I immediately barged inside the cabin only to see Eve cachinnating at Ian's jokes while holding her stomach. Anger rushed inside my veins. I curled my fists in a ball as they both were busy in their own world irrespective of my presence. But as soon Ian's gaze landed on me, he panicked and immediately stood up. Evelyn got confounded and followed his gaze. But my blood boiled when she just stared at me emotionlessly.

Ian noticed me blazing with fire. He shook her a little. But she heaved a sigh and got up still staring me with a poker face. I marched towards her with predatory steps trying to scare her but she didn't drop her cold glare.

“Ms. Evelyn Clarke, didn't your parents taught you how to respect your Boss?” I snarled with gritted teeth but she just smirked in return making me shocked.

“Well, I think you know more about my parents than myself Mr. Black.”  She spoke sarcastically making me explode.

“MY OFFICE, NOW!!!”

I growled. Throwing Ian, a death glare, I stormed away from there.

End of Dylan's P.O.V.

Evelyn's P.O.V.

As soon as Dylan left, Ian grabbed my shoulders tightly and turned me around to face him.

“Are you out of your mind, you fool? He is our Boss.” He scolded me angrily.

“I know.”

“WHAT?”

He looked at me puzzled watching my blank expression. I removed his arms and headed towards the Devil's Cave.

Inside CEO Office

I knocked on the door gently.

“COME IN!”

I sighed as I heard his growl. From the corner of my eyes, I saw Sophia smirking at me. I rolled my eyes at her and entered inside.

“Sir, you call-“I couldn't complete my sentence as all of a sudden Dylan slammed me on the wall harshly.

“AHH! DY-

“SHUT UP!”

Dylan yelled furiously making me flinched. I looked at him fearfully as he kept glaring me with his piercing eyes.

“HOW DARE YOU? DID YOU FORGOT WHO YOU ARE?”

He growled ferociously. I jerked his hands away and pushed him back with all my force making him stumble backwards.

“I didn't forget anything but it looks like you forgot your own rules.” I spat while glaring him back.

“WHAT RULES? YOU BITCH! YOU LOW-KEY BEGGAR!! YOU MOTHERFUCKING GOLD-DIGGER! YOU-“

“YEAH!! KEEP SWEARING BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT YOU ALL KNOW!”

I didn't let him finish as I screamed outrageously with tears streaming down my face. I was offended by his words. Dylan looked at me in shock but soon he put on his angry mask and grabbed my forearms in a death grip.

“Don't yell at me.”

“Why? Who are you?” Dylan tightened his grip hearing my reply.

“Your BOSS!!” He roared with blood-red eyes. I scoffed at his reply making him more irritated.

“I never asked you for this job. You forced me into this.”

Dylan became enraged as he couldn't find fear in my eyes. He again slammed me on the wall making me hiss in pain. I am sure my back must have been bruised up by now. He punched the wall beside my head harshly and seethed on my face.

“STAY IN YOUR LIMITS, EVELYN BLACK!!”

“It's only Evelyn.” I deadpanned. Dylan lost his temper and grabbed my face with his right-hand making yelp in pain.

“You're a BLACK NOW! DO YOU UNDERSTAND?” He screamed ferociously. I started laughing making him shocked.

“ARE YOU-“

“SHUT UP!”

I yelled and pushed him back. I am so done with him. Dylan immediately closed his mouth and looked at me in shock.

“What the hell is your problem? Firstly, you played with my heart and trapped me in your cage. When I saw your true colours, you married me forcefully. When I tried to fight back, you along with your mother harassed me and abused me. When I tried to escape, you implanted a filthy tracker inside my body. Your mother kept humiliating me in front of you but when I took a stand for myself you even tried to snatch away my dignity. You have tried everything just to make me work for you. Now see, here I am. Now what do you want? Tell me. You won't even let me live now.” I spoke while crying my heart out in front of him. He kept staring me blankly.

“I am trapped now. You even snatched my parents' away from me by stuffing your filthy money in their mouth. You had wrecked me up completely. Neither I can't escape from your hellhole nor I can't even tell my misery to anyone. Are you happy now?” I kept sobbing. Dylan was about to say something but I raised my hand in front of his face stopping him in midway.

“No Dylan. I had enough of you now. I know you hate me but I request you to at least let me live in peace. Don't snatch away my happiness from me now. I know you don't love me but please for God's​ sake just let me live.” I spoke in a broken voice while staring him sadly. He was looking at me dumbstruck. I then spared a last glance at him and left his room while wiping off my tears.

As soon I left his office I quickly went inside the restroom and closed the door. I slid down on the floor and started bawling my eyes out.

“Why is he so cruel to me? I didn't even do anything wrong? Why am I getting so much pain God? For what sin are you punishing me?”

I put my hands on my mouth and kept sobbing.

~Time skips

1:00 p.m.

I went to the cafeteria to grab my lunch but as soon as I reached there, I felt everyone's eyes on me. I looked at them but they immediately looked away while looking at me with a

'Disgusted face?'

'What happened?'

I became anxious and my eyes started searching for Ian and Lily.

'God! where are they?'

Suddenly Rose came towards me. She looked mad.

“You have the audacity to talk to our Boss like that?”

I became stunned by her words.

“You should be happy that you got to work here, you disgraceful brat.”

I narrowed my eyes at her. “Excuse me Ma'am but what are you talking abo-“

“SHUT UP!”

Rose bellowed on my face making me shocked.

“This is how you pay for the ones who are helping you and your poor mother.”

'Poor mother?'

“WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU SAYING?”, I lost my mind and shouted back.

"Why didn't you tell them that you're the daughter of the Black's maid, Evelyn?

I froze as soon as I heard those words. I turned around and saw Sophia smirking at me evilly.

'Did she perhaps tell everyone about me and Dylan?'

'But Black's maid? that's not true'

“That's not-“

I was about to say something but Sophia quickly cut me in the middle.

“Tsk tsk poor people.” Sophia then came closer to me and held my wrists.

“Utter a single word and be prepared to see your beloved parents die.”

She whispered in my ears making me horrified. I looked at her with teary-eyes. But she just smiled slyly. I am again trapped. I sealed my lips and dropped my gaze to the floor.

“See Rose, Dylan gave her a job to earn a living. You know how much he cares for everyone. He doesn't even differentiate between rich or poor, between masters or.... slaves.”

I glared her but she just smirked in return. She then quickly turned around and started crying with fake tears.

“My Dylan is so kind-hearted. When he called her in his cabin and tried to explain her to behave properly, she started yelling at him. She called him names and even insulted him.”

I looked at her in shock.

“N-NO!!”

“See, she even got the guts to deny it.” She started fake sobbing.

“SOPHIA, DON'T LIE!!”

“SHUT UP EVELYN!” Rose growled. I closed my eyes and pushed back my tears as I tried hard not to cry.

“You fooled all of us. This is your true colours, huh? I thought you are a nice hardworking girl but no you're a cunning fox.”

As soon I heard those heart piercing words, I couldn't hold back my tears. Tears started escaping my eyes while she kept shouting at me in front of everyone.

“We thought you're a good person.”

I looked at Lily with sparkling eyes.

“L-Lily-“

I tried to approach her but she raised her hands stopping me.

“Enough with your drama Queen Bee. We aren't interested in being friends with such a two-faced snake.” Ian looked at me with a disgusted face. Lily nodded. “Exactly, I even regret calling you as my friend.” She spoke with so much hatred while looking at me with her piercing gaze.

“Don't speak like that with her or else Dylan will feel bad.” Sophia spoke dramatically while wiping her tears.

“See, Boss still cares about you. But you, blatant jerk!”, Rose heaved a sigh loudly trying to calm herself down and looked at Sophia.

“Don't worry. I will say sorry on her behalf. “She said to Sophia and shot me a glare.

“And I'll teach her how to behave.”

I kept looking down with tears falling down from my eyes like a river.

“Oh!! Thank-you so much. Do teach her some manners. But don't be too harsh. Poor thing, she doesn't know how to talk with rich and dignified people as she is from a small town. Just studying a few books doesn't teach you how to behave with your seniors.” Sophia spoke in a menacing tone making me boil in anger. But I didn't utter a word.

“Yes, you're right. Please forgive her this time, Ma'am.” Rose muttered with her head down. Sophia nodded and approached me. I kept my eyes down otherwise I would bury her alive right here.

“I forgive you. And don't worry about your job, Dylan pities you and your poor needy Mom. He won't throw you out from here. “She spoke sternly but I was sure that she was smirking at me.

“Apologize Evelyn. “Rose gritted.

“I am sorry Ma'am.” I spoke softly with tears falling down.

“It's okay but don't repeat that.”, Sophia grinned and patted my back. But what she said next made my heart drop.

“But brats need punishment, don't they?”

I looked at her in fear. Rose became a little bit restless by her words and spoke nervously, “What punishment?”

Sophia smirked at me wickedly.

“From now on no one is going to talk to her. You won't be allowed to eat in the cafeteria. You have to bow at every single person and that too at 90 degrees. You'll come here sharp at 7:00 a.m. and leave at 10:00 p.m. And if you want to eat your lunch here you have to eat while sitting on the floor.”

I became shocked by her atrocious words. Not only me but everyone in the cafeteria.

“THAT'S NOT FAIR. I DIDN'T EV-“

Sophia cut me off as she looked at me with her dark eyes.

“Rose?”

Rose became startled and held my forearm tightly in a warning manner.

“Yes, she accepts it.”

I look at her in shock but she only glared me in return, warning me to keep quiet.

“Well, that's good. So, you all can enjoy your lunch.”, Sophia then dismissed others.

I couldn't control it anymore. I immediately snatched my arms from her and ran away from there.

~Time skips

7:00 p.m.

I was still working in the office. Everyone had already left for their respective homes. I was all alone completing the reports. Ian and Lily didn't spoke a word to me since that incident. They left the office without even saying anything to me. Rose also handed me the files and left for home.

I hadn't eaten anything since afternoon. I was typing on the laptop like a machine while tears kept falling down my eyes. I kept wiping them off roughly with the back of my palms. My cheeks had turned red as I was rubbing my cheeks too harshly. I am tired of fighting with everyone. I had given up on myself. How easily people change? I thought maybe I got a new life, maybe I got a second chance but now I think I don't deserve happiness. As now I had finally understood that

My life had turned into a mess...a complete mess.
