Chapter 9

Frank was taken aback by the protest. With furrowed brows, he glanced at his grasp. Kara's hand was wriggling there. "You were about to attack me. Isn't it natural for me to defend myself?"

"You started it. If you didn't take my glasses, how could I attack? Are you secretly interested in me?"

Frank's eyes almost popped out. In his whole life, that was the first time a woman had accused him of having feelings for her.

"Are you crazy? Your dreams are too high." Frank let go of Kara then cleaned his fingers with a handkerchief.

"Then why don't you let me resign? You also act like a child asking for attention. Is your perfect fiancee boring? That’s why you're looking for something different? An ugly, stiff girl like me, for example?"

Frank sighed in disbelief. Kara Martin was different from other women. She was so annoying!

"How could you be so ungrateful? I gave you a chance to improve yourself, but you just became worse. Never mind! Now make me some coffee!"

Getting the opportunity she had been waiting for, Kara ran out of the room. She had forgotten her glasses. She didn't even notice that the man who opened the door for her was holding back laughter. She just wanted to escape from Frank Harper.

"Why are you laughing?" the CEO snapped as Jeremy turned to face him.

"Please don't be too harsh on her, Sir. Her assumption is not wrong. You do seem to like her."

"Jeremy!"

The assistant raised both hands. He dared not speak anymore. After a nod, he left the room. Frank always needed time to calm his emotions.

Meanwhile, in the pantry, Kara had just walked in, panting. Occasionally, she patted her cheek. She still couldn't believe that she had managed to escape the suspicion of the Perverted Demon.

‘This is like a suicide mission. I have to leave this company as soon as possible.’

While thinking hard, Kara prepared hot water and a cup. However, as soon as she opened the cupboard, her focus was diverted.

A row of jars in front of her had been labeled with the names of the days. Black Ivory coffee for Monday, Finca El Injerto for Tuesday, Saint Helena for Wednesday, Hacienda La Esmeralda for Thursday, and Luwak coffee for Friday. The contents of that cupboard cost more than her monthly salary!

"Does it require a special technique to brew it?" Kara sighed worriedly. She could imagine Frank's anger if she wasted the coffee grounds.

‘But, isn't that good? If that Perverted Demon gets angry, he'll definitely fire me.’

Kara's smile widened. After nodding firmly, she turned off the kettle. Without hesitation, she put the coffee into a cup, and then poured it with water that had not boiled yet. She even added salt and pepper to it. Once the coffee was ready to be served, she struggled to hold back her laughter.

"Is that his order?" Jeremy asked when she arrived at the door.

"Yes." Kara quickly pursed her lips so as not to leak her amusement. She was ready to accept the anger of the Perverted Demon.

"You brewed it according to the instructions on the back of the jar, right?"

Hearing that serious tone, Kara's smile suddenly froze. After blinking, she nodded stiffly. "Yes."

"That's good. Mister Harper's mood is not good and you've already caused trouble twice. I hope you won't make any more mistakes."

Receiving such a serious warning, Kara's guts shrank a bit. "What will happen if I make the third mistake? Will I be fired immediately?"

Jeremy grimaced. "The punishment from him is not just dismissal. I hope you never find out. Now, hurry up! Don't keep him waiting!"

Kara's heart skipped a beat when Jeremy pushed her back through the door. She wanted to step back, but those terrible gray eyes were already staring at her.

‘What happens if that Perverted Demon drinks this? Is this really a suicide mission?’

Kara's face turned pale. Her hands were shaking. However, the man who was on the phone called her using his index finger. Like it or not, Kara had to approach.

"So, the CB-23 prototype failed?"

Frank's voice sent shivers down Kara's spine. She could control her nervousness at first. Unfortunately, when she was about to put down the cup, Frank suddenly hit the table. The coffee in Kara's hand almost spilled.

"Do you forget? Everything that threatens our reputation must be eliminated. I don't care how many millions you spent on that prototype. Those damaged and useless items must still be destroyed."

Kara widened her eyes and dared not move. Louis and Emily's faces now flashed in her mind. The twins also threatened the company's reputation. If Frank Harper didn't hesitate to destroy prototypes worth millions dollars, what about unwanted children?
