chapter 4
"Baby girl, wake up."
I felt him pat me softly on the back. I really didn't want to wake up. I was really tired.
"Wake up."
"I'm tired please let me bunk school," I said putting my face on my pillow. My voice was muffled by the pillow, but I knew Dad could hear me.
"You forgot that you bunked some classes yesterday," he claimed. Sassy.
"Because my eyes were glowing. I couldn't risk anyone seeing me. I had to bunk," I said trying to reason with him. Although he never took my side, it is worth a try.
"Good choice now gets dressed for school," he says patting my hair.
"Ughh!" I cry out frustrated, roughly moving his hands. "Get off your hands of me." I got up and walked to my bathroom to get ready for the long day at school. I hate school.
"Cheeky lady," he said showing his tongue out to me.
"Whatever Dad."
I did my morning routine wearing my ripped jeans and a white tight top showing a little of my tummy wearing my superstar.
"Let’s go," I say to Dad who was stretched out on my now-organized double bed furiously tapping his cell phone.
He got up, stretched out showing off his six-pack and toned tan stomach under his white shirt. I blushed at the mere thought of imagining my dad sweating in the sun. I slapped myself slightly to get rid of the thoughts.
"You alright honey?" he asks, appearing concerned.
"Yeah, Dad I'm alive and kicking," I said smiling.
He snickered "Well, slapping yourself is never a sign of being alive."
"Yeah yeah-" I halted in my steps feeling confused. I turned to look at Dad.
"Where is the car?" I asked eyeing our empty driveway.
“A friend of mine is having it fixed so today it’s us and our wolf form." He grins from ear to ear.
"Yay!" I jump up and down clapping my hands in excitement. This is exciting.
(In the woods).
I ran near a tree hidden away from anyone's eye then took off my clothes stuffing them in my bag. I shifted and carried the bag with my teeth. I got out from behind the tree to meet Dad's black with white spots. His wolf was large, no joke, large and tall. Power oozed off him.
I was a little. Maybe a foot shorter than him. The difference was my wolf is a beautiful white with no spots. Dad pulls me out of my imagination by nudging me.
We ran racing. No matter how many times I leapt, Dad always managed to catch up with me or even leave me behind. I relished the feeling of the wind on my fur. In the air, I felt so free. Funny enough, I felt a connection to the air or the wind.
Maybe, just maybe, I appreciate breathing that air, right? Our paws hit the ground and leapt a second later. After running for 10 minutes, we shifted back and headed to school.
As we neared the gate of the school, I saw a bunch of kids surrounding something but I shrugged it off.
"Thanks, Dad, for walking me," I said smiling as I fixed the strap of my bag.
"Oh, it's-"
I cut him off.
"That was very nice of you Dad." I saw his car near us.
"Yeah, my friend said this is the only spot he is gonna drop my car so it forced me to walk all this way." He says smiling.
I gaped at him.
"And here I was thinking you were doing it for your precious daughter," I said exaggerating.
"You are precious, but my car is more precious." He says shrugging and getting into his car then starting the engine.
"You are so heartless, Dad."
Somehow my heart just felt heavy when I uttered the words "dad" His laughter vibrated the whole school resulting in me face-palming myself.
"You love me that's what matters right?" He smiled before smirking.
Shit!
No, scratch that.
Double shit!
"I know you don't want the whole school to know your middle name now do you?"
I paled, realizing I was in deep trouble with him.
"No....you wouldn't!"
"Not if you tell me that you love me," he says flashing me his white canines.
I hate Chris.
"I love you, Chris," I said through my clenched teeth.
"Yeah, that's more like it, Mike."
Oh, God. Hideous, I know. Who in their right mind would name their daughter Mike? Like for fucks sake! I clenched my teeth together with anger. I really hated that name.
"Wow! Calm down, your eyes are glowing.”
I closed my eyes.
"I'm sleeping over at Autumn's house today don't fetch me." I turned around to avoid any snide remarks or annoying input.
He is annoying, like super annoying. He deserves a slap on the face with a chair. I noticed the group was still there. I fixed the strap of my bag heading there. I heard the argument before I saw them. I knew who it was.
Autumn and Maxwell, her mate.
But what made my heart drop in my stomach and made me wanna turn back was the argument. It was about me.
"April is always fucking in this relationship. She is always the third person here," said Maxwell.
Well, I really hate him. I don’t give nicknames to my enemies, that’s why I use his full name to address him.
"What? April hates your guts! How come she's a problem? Isn't it enough that she leaves when she sees you?" Autumn shouted angrily shoving her finger at his forehead.
"She makes you do wrong things! She is a bad influence! Stay away from her," he whispered the last part.
I came forward to Autumn "Autumn, what is he on about?"
Max, no scratch that, Maxwell glared at me before leaving. I did not spare him a glance. I do not give two hells about him.
"I can't talk to you right now."
Ouch, she looked at me and chased after her mate. I smelt Winter coming and she dragged me into a warm hug. I placed my hands on her shoulders.
"I just don't understand. I did nothing wrong."
"No, babe let her heal."
I shook my head getting out of her embrace. "What do you mean? What did I do wrong?" I shook my head.
Handing Winter my bag I ran after Autumn. I found her in the playground on the ground with her hands placed on her head in a stressed manner.
"I never thought one day I would have to choose between my best friend and my mate," she said. "You must think that I'm stupid for choosing my mate, but I can't do this," she said with her hand gesturing between her and me.
I just kept quiet. She studied me for a few seconds.
"April talk to me."
I just stared at her. I honestly couldn’t say anything at this moment. I was too hurt to talk and couldn’t believe this. I know that people couldn't live without their mates, but I didn’t think she would choose him in a heartbeat.
"At least show some emotion."
I thought Winter and Dad always scolded me for hiding my pain.
"I'm sorry you had to choose," with that, I turned and left my best friend behind. Well, she wasn't more special than Winter, but she had a place in my heart, and a piece of me I left with her.
She left. She is the only person who is leaving me. Well, that's what I thought, but fate always has plans for us.
