Introduction

Perdita Sanchez, a twenty-six-year-old Spanish-American girl from California, ventures to Cambridge, England in 1955 to visit her aunt for the summer. She aims to marry William Montgomery, a wealthy suitor from New York who comes from an established, prominent family. Perdita's father thinks she's being impetuous, so he sends her to her aunt to get new perspective.
In a small village called Grantchester, Perdita meets the vicar, a veteran of the world war as well as a Cambridge scholar, and falls madly in love.
Simon Darby is handsome, kind, and noble, but weary of love, having just escaped a scandalous relationship with a divorced woman, which almost ended his career. He just wants peace and quiet for once while he works on his mystery novel, free from stress as he is also a recovering alcoholic.
But Perdita has her eye on him and she can never turn down a challenge. On top of that, his former mistress is not quite out of the picture and wants him back.
